Anime Boston 2012 Theme: Post-Apocalyptic

Post by Faceman »

After the world is devastated by a series of cataclysmic events, Anime Boston becomes one of the last bastions of humanity.

The Otaku have taken the Hynes Convention Center as their stronghold. As they strive to rebuild civilization, they must be wary of malicious powers trying to subvert them from without and within.

Will the forces of evil gain control of Anime Boston and destroy our last best chance at survival? Or will the Otaku inherit the Earth?

Are zombies going to be involved in this in any way? Or is it more of a "The Road" type of thing?

No zombies.

Any relation to zombies is strictly unintentional.

Any actual zombies is strictly the result of science run amok.

And Mad Science was a theme from a few years ago. If zombies haven't overrun AB by now, they won't get a foothold at all.

By the way, brilliant theme! I love it.

LOL will security be wearing reclamation armor to keep out the Non-Otakus from the stronghold? This is very fallout-y themed and I love it.

Oh!! This gives me a great idea for my table! Just asked my boyfriend what he thought about redoing my display so that it looks like it is made of used and destroyed items. Any other artist revamping their displays for the theme?

LOVE the theme!! <3

This might be due to the fact I am slightly obsessed with the greatest video game(s) ever... Fallout!

Now I can wear my Fallout NCR Veteran Ranger cosplay and fit the theme, yay :D

I'm sorry, but I really hope there is no emphasis on zombies this year. I AM SICK OF ZOMBIES!

All the same, great idea for the theme. I wonder how many other cons will do that.

While people are free to cosplay as whatever they want, from a staff perspective, I don't believe there will be a zombie focus. Zombies are more Apocalyptic, whereas we'll be post-apocalyptic. So instead of zombies in the halls, there'll be a pile of burning zombie carcasses from the zombie cleanup.

How to prevent an apocalypse after it has happened:

If apocalypse caused by a sentient being or something made by a sentient being:
1: Find a way to travel to the past.
1a: Try to be sure your form of travel will NOT cause memory loss.
2: Find cause of apocalypse and stop it.

If apocalypse was caused by a natural disaster:
1: Find way to travel to and survive on another planet, for yours is pretty much kaput.

Ya know, it's a shame I didn't take pictures after the snowstorm. It hit us pretty bad here in Connecticut and caused a lot of devastation...lots of people still without power. Those pictures from right after with the abandoned streets and strategically placed police cruisers with the lights on would make some pretty cool backgrounds. Note: I am not trying to come off as insensitive I was without power for several days myself and it pretty much felt like the apocalypse after the snow settled.

...Post apocalyptic, huh?

Looks like I'm writing a story, then.

My experience with life after the apocalypse is remembering it isn't the end but a new beginning. What better way to showcase that but for the survivors to make more people? Speaking of which: It's been proven wherever there are mass deaths people get the urge to make babies to replentish their population. Black Plague, WWII, Earthquakes, 9/11, etc.

Yep, I'm definitely writing an AB Story on the theme. I'll do it a chapter at a time so everyone can follow along.

This should be very fun indeed.
Thankfully I just added on a character with an apocalyptic in their anime.
It should be fun except for when the food runs out and then everyone is fighting everyone; and hopefully Jenova hasn't gotten too dusty.

Oh yeah, I don't mind that the theme doesn't include zombies, I'm just a little miffed by the numerous people saying they are glad the theme doesn't have zombies because they are sick of them or something....I love zombies a lot (well I mean I would kill them but you know what I mean) I even wrote a college research paper on them last term haha So how other people can not like them is a bit...shocking I guess haha

It's actually quite simple. It's because the market is so oversaturated with zombie-related material that it's sickening.

It's even simpler: People have different tastes, it's what makes the world go round. It also keeps the cosplays, panels, games and shows that our attendees offer fresh and varied. It's a good thing!

Let's keep things on track, with feedback about the theme and your plans on how you'll join in. 8)

Okay, for the record, the reason I'm sick of zombies is because (and forgive the pun here) it's been done to death. The market is so oversaturated with zombie-related media that I'm sick of hearing what makes them so cool (not that I understood why they were cool in the first place).

Okay, I better stop now before one of the mods decides to exile me for irrelevant rants.

I wasn't aware there was a difference between apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic. I'll keep that in mind.

Apocalyptic would be as the Apocalypse was happening and people running away from the disaster that was causing it and just trying to stay alive through the whole ordeal while the living things are being killed off.

Post-Apocalyptic would be after the dust settles. It is essentially a deserted waste land of how a world that was thriving is now barren and dead and how the few survivors of the world are struggling on to rebuild a new life after whatever it was that happened happened. It's a picking up the pieces type situation while struggling with very survival since there would be limited resources for food or water since most of it would have been destroyed. Think Ghost Towns and the like.
