2025 AMV Contest (closed) and HAMV Contest (deadline 5/3/25) - Open for Entries!

Hello, everyone!

I'm happy to announce that the AMV Contest for Anime Boston 2025 is now open and accepting entries!

There's been a few changes this year, so please make sure you read the rules before submitting. The high points of the changes:

• The deadline for submissions to be uploaded to our servers is 11:59 PM Eastern Time on April 12, 2025.
• Freshness cutoff is one year before the convention. Videos publicly available before May 23, 2024 are not eligible.
• Content is restricted to a PG-13 rating.
• Category descriptions have all been updated to hopefully improve clarity.
• Fun/Comedy and Romance/Sentimental have been renamed to Fun/Humor and Sentiments to better describe the types of videos the categories are intended for.
• The Trailer/Commercial category has been retired. Trailers and Commercials can still be entered, but they'll compete in the most appropriate category for their content (Drama for serious ones, Fun/Humor for comedic ones, etc.).
• Minimum duration for videos has been increased from 30 seconds to 60 seconds.
• A new Shorts category has been added for videos between 15 and 60 seconds in duration.
• The maximum number of entries an editor may contribute to has been updated to a maximum of two main category videos (one per category) and up to five Shorts.
• Generative AI content is prohibited, in particular "deepfake" audio.

• The deadline for the Hentai AMV Contest is 11:59 PM Eastern Time on May 3, 2025.
• The freshness rule for the Hentai AMV Contest is two years before the convention (May 23, 2023).

I have a question. If your video that you want to submit has no 18+ content except for the music, which contest do I submit it to HAMV or AMV or NONE???

If your music would exceed a PG-13 rating, it can't be submitted to the main AMV Contest.

The HAMV Contest is intended for videos that exceed a PG-13 rating for sexual content, not just language and not for violence at all. If your audio would fit that criteria, the HAMV Contest would be your correct place to submit.

Otherwise, there's unfortunately not a contest available for videos beyond a PG-13 rating for language or violence. However, the Fan Creations staff do run a late-night showcase block of videos that exceed a PG-13 rating for language. If your video would fit there, I'd suggest using the Contact Form on the website to contact the Fan Creations Co-Coordinators to see if they'd be interested in including your video in that block.

We're down to the last two weeks to submit to the AMV Contest!

Please remember, you can submit up to two videos to the main contest categories, and up to five videos to the Shorts category.

We look forward to to submissions in any category, though numbers for the Shorts and Other categories are particularly thin right now, so please get your submissions in soon, especially if they fit those categories!

Hi everyone!

The submission deadline for Anime Boston is only one week away, so please get your submissions in soon!

We're still a bit thin for entries in the Other and Shorts categories, so entries there would be greatly appreciated.

Remember you can submit up to FIVE shorts in addition to TWO in the other categories (the form will unfortunately only allow submitting one Short at a time, we're working on fixing that for next year).

Overflow Showing

Videos that were not selected as finalists for the 2025 AMV Contest will be shown all day on Sunday in the Fan Creations Track (Hynes 312).

We do have far more videos than we can play even in that amount of time, so we would like to prioritize showing videos by editors in attendance. If you are attending the convention, you can speak to anyone at the tech desk at the front of the room during the showing to have your videos moved up in the queue to be played or to be replayed if you missed them earlier in the showing.

AMV Editors Dinner
