Hmmmmmm memories of old skool AB, I got one.
Memory 1) Moving a MAMMOTH sized printer which almost crushed my foot to some random room. The printer, which later I discovered, wasn't even working in the first place.
PS) w00t! First post!

Oh god. Remember the thread dedicated to her? 40+ posts or so, everyone trying to get her AIM and email? It was absurd.

Sometimes I miss the Park Plaza. It was... quaint. I guess my favorite memory was kissing my friend dressed as Wolfwood before the '04 Masquerade in the balcony and watching the fangirls nearly pass out down on the seating levels because from that distance they figured I was a guy.
Good times, good times.
Good times, good times.

I was just so happy to go to my first con in 03. The Park Plaza was just so awesome.

As I recall, she was 14. One of my guy friends told her she was pretty and was mortified when he learned her age later.

I have several things I wanted to share:
I remember when, in 2004, on that Saturday morning of the con, my boyfriend & I had gone to Au Bon Pain for breakfast, and one of the workers there was SO nice!! She helped us get our food & drinks for us. A very nice person.^_^
Also, one day we ate at MJ O'Connors. I remember they had these AWESOME fried portabello mushrooms, I think it was a special appetizer of the day.
I also remember how the waitress who waited on us was very nice, too. She asked us how we were enjoying the convention. It was really cool!!^_^
I also remember meeting Crispin Freeman & also getting my picture taken w/him near the elevators.

M.J. O'Connors is great. Excellent food, very polite to dishevelled staffers, and they understand the need to get a Guiness out, stat.

Okay, I've been staffing this bad-boy of a con since 2004 (would have been since 2003, but something came up that year. D'oh...) so yeah. I have memories.
The fondest memory of AB at the BPP would have to be a that of a *CERTAIN VEGETABLE* whose name is now taboo, and DARE NOT BE SPOKEN around ANY AB staffers from 2004... XD

"Moving Statues"
In 2003, it ended with Kirby and Brad Swaile (I think) pressed up against each other.
I did it again in 2004. (I think it was Lex Lang and Michael Coleman that year.) After the people immediately made them press their bodies right up against each other, I decided not to do that game again in the future. It was getting "weird".

Well, now that AB is at the Hynes, I highly reccommend Bukowski's Tavern for your disheveled, Guiness-imbibing needs.
It's right around the corner, and they have Guinness and many MANY other beers to behold...
(Food's not bad either from what I hear.)

I miss the look of the Park Plaza. I prefer the Hynes because of the size, air flow, etc, but the Park Plaza had little corners and balconies for the must amazing pictures.

yeah, I agree... you had alot of good photo ops in some of those places... but the hynes and the prudential have alot of them too, you just have to look.
My cousin and I, for example, took some awesome pics leaning on the railings and sitting on planters in the Hynes

I do miss leaning over the 2nd floor balcony and watching all the cosplayers enter the hotel lobby (and the subsequent looks on the faces of innocent tourists who were checking into the hotel).

What you can do though, is grab a chair in the lobby of the Sheraton near the bar, and watch the faces of people as cosplayers flood in.

ahh... '03 was my very first con, and I have always gone since. I miss those days, when I was the Halo god, the plaza was also where I did my first cosplay (as Kakashi in '04) I fondly remember those days of valor and glory where I discovered that crazed fangirls can be ten times more frightening than any one crazed fanboy, and basically all was right in the world.

I remember me and my friends danced for the Duck Boats and played soccer with a muffin for Manga in '04. It was great. We also met Lex Lang and he talked to our camera! *eee!*
And the '03 artist alley was the BEST. The '04 one had a terrible location.

You can be on the second or third floor of the con center where the escalators are and look down at the cosplayers but it isn't the same.

The last AB at the Park Plaza was the one where I first heard that there was going to be a live-action Transformers movie. Just hearing that was worth the long lines.

Oh man, Good Ol' Hynes. 2003 was my first con also, plenty of memories (although I only went 1 day )
-All the great people I met in the line thursday night to pick up my badge, including a a staff member who first introduced me to the FFVIII answering machine!
-It being my first con, just wandering around and not even actually attending any panels or the such, but still having an awesome time anyway
-Actually meeting a few genuinely nice people from the signs...those signs...
-Those signs actually existing :p
-I think I may have accidentally cut a whole junkload of people in the masquerade line without even realizing it....IM SORRY!!!
-In 2004, getting my badge signed by Lex Lang while I cosplayed as Sanosuke!

Yeah about those signs. The powers that be (and you know who you are) say that signs in the windows are a no-no. But I don't recall if they say anything about signs around your body (I have a T-Shirt that says Otaku with an up arrow on it).

as far as I understand it based on the conversation we're having in the exec forum.... signs are only allowed if the character you're cosplaying as uses the sign in the anime. As for "signs" printed on t-shirts, as long as it's not considered solitician (asking someone to do something for personal gain), then it's fine.

Does that mean my shirt can't say "I'm cute, give me pocky"???.... *sniff*... Sadness....
Fine, fine... I'll just put "Cute. Pocky."... how's that??.... *laughs*... J/K... I know the pocky rule!! ~_^
I believe you are right on the sign usage. No solicitation of ANY KIND (be on a t-shirt or sign) and only signs are allowed in cosplay so long as the character uses said sign.
Awesome!

I remember walking around AB2k3 as the ONLY Auron.... i was so happy cause not only did the costume cost me alot of money, but i got glomped and befriended alot of people X3... then being the ONLY Shino at Otakon 2k3... but thats for another forums... now i just have to find a obscure character to cosplay for next years con!
any hints let me know!
AB was my first con... then Otakon... that started the world of anime for me... and great friendships that seem to still last... even went to Mega Con in florida... just not the same as AB.

[color:red]"Oh how i Miss the old ways"[/color]-Lucifor, Constantine. Man AB 03 and 04 were just so much fun. AB 03 was my first con and I've been meaning to get to other cons (finally goign to Heroes con in NC see my topic in the other cons section) but nothin can compare to your first wonderment of seeing everyone in costume and at that point knowing who most were then, and then joining the fun yourself in cosplay. But my best memory has to be cosplaying as Shishio and posing for pix with a Rurouni Kenshin making it look like i was killing him oh so many memories.

raising this thread from the grave....
I'm pretty sure you're all talking of my good friend who went as X-2 Yuna that year. It was definitely a creeper show and had to play body guard a few times. Need a good example of the creeper-hood? We have a picture of her posing forward, in the back ground of which is a man taking a picture of her butt. ... a 13 year old's butt.
