It's getting to that time of year again for contestants to slug it out for prizes.
So after much thought about the best way to do these sign ups. We decided....
That the opening five slots are first come/first serve in this thread..

Why did we do this?
Because every option for quality control has it's set backs.

Voice Clips: Compression and possible editing.
Video Clips: Same deal.
Pre screening at remote location: Lack of money and travel time for singers.

There will still be five more open slots available on Friday before the contest.
If you don't check in with us ten to fifteenth mins before the contest, someone on may take
your spot.

You lucky first five posters need to include all of the following:
Name (Stage Name):
Song :
Artist:
Song Running Time (UNDER SIX MINS):
Instruments (if any):
Email:

This Years Judging:
Will be based on audience voting again with a twist.
For one thing REAL printed ballots!! (stares at Pete)
Also our staffers votes count for three each (18 in total) there by weighing out popularity.

FAQ

Do we allow lyrics?
Yes! Lyrics are okay but people will judge accordingly.

Do we allow non-karaoke versions of songs?
Yes! Non-karaoke versions are okay but people will judge accordingly.

Can we make a karaoke version for you?
No! The audio filters used to do that will make the track sound terrible.
(we can lower the music a lot and turn up your audio)

Why the online waiting list?
To cover anyone who wants to drop out before the convention.

Can I sing anything?
The restrictions are JPOP,KPOP,Anime,Game Music (Within Reason)

We don't have a karaoke but it doesn't have to be the karaoke version. But then you would be singing over vocals so it may affect your scoring. Just let us know if you want a different song. ^^

Hmmm that's great to hear, thanks. I think I'll probably go with a different song then, but I want to make sure an off-vocal of the one I'm thinking of exists before I go ahead and commit if that's ok. I'll look when I get home from work tonight~ Thank you!

The problem with that is it would be hard to get the songs playing at the exact same time. If they're not playing exactly at the same time, your singing would be off.

Something you and others might want to consider is actually practicing your song beforehand. I'm pretty sure this contest is on Saturday night, so you could try singing it or another song any time before that for practice. (Please be advised though that there can be a LONG wait if the queue is long. Like an hour or more. We're usually only slow right after opening.)

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask questions, but since it's the official contest thread, I'm giving it a shot!

If I attend AB this year and manage to get into the contest, I might use a portable keyboard as accompaniment, but it's got pretty low volume and I don't have any amps for it. So during the contest, will there be any amps or speakers available for instruments?

Well we have a small sound board but it comes down to whether we can connect your
keyboard to it. On side note if you want to be certain we have a song for the contest I would
bring it with you in some usable format.

Well usally I can start a song at the same time if I see the computer yall are using then id be able to start the same time im kinda tehno freak so I can get them to play just let me start them together when im there cause ill be ready and whp are the top 5 people for the list to sing for kareoke

We can hook up to an Ipod and other mp3 players, so if it has a similar outlet it probably can. If you're able to get to the karaoke room veryyyy early (right as we open), we MIGHT be able to see if it works. I emphasize might because we get so busy and we always seem to have troubleshooting that needs attention first. I can't make guarantees. :( But I think if it has a headphone jack, that works.

How/where does one sign up at the con? And what do we need to bring should we get in? Also, when is the contest/what is the time commitment?

You sign up at the karaoke room (you'll have to check the map when you get there because there's the possibility of it moving from previous years). What you need to bring is mostly yourself, but also know the information for the song you want to sing and if it's an obscure song, you might want to bring it on a CD/mp3 player.

I can't say exact times for sure yet since we have nothing finalized, but going by what happened last year... we start sign ups for both contests right after opening on Friday. (The other contest being the shuffle contest which is completely different and separate.) The contest itself is Saturday night, probably around 6-8pm and lasts about 2 hours. You should arrive at the LEAST 10-15 minutes BEFORE the event starts. We will have a waiting list that we have had to use.

I don't know what time the Masquerade is at, so I can't say. Unfortunately, it's impossible to find a time that is convenient for everyone.

The Masquerade is always a Saturday evening event. In my experience, participants are usually called to be there about 2 or so hours early to get organized/seated and learn how the event will progress. Once they're settled, there's about an hour for seating, and then the show begins. Unless your contest ends by 4 or begins after 10 there's no way it won't at least partially conflict =/

No problem and thank you for bringing up this important point. As I said, we don't have a finalized time yet, but I'm sure there will be people who when we do announce, or at the con, notice it overlaps with a different event they must attend.

Of course, we'd like to know asap if something comes up and a contestant can't attend and we do have a waiting list which we've had to use in the past.

Okay, re-writing this reply to make things more clear.

Changing your song by using this thread is only acceptable until Wednesday, April 4th!

If you want to change it before the contest, it must be done on FRIDAY, April 6th.

We want to actually print ballots out so we do need some time to prepare. ^_^

sign ups at all. Best chance to get in is to come in early Friday and sign up then.
I wanted to give non forum users a shot at being able to preform as well.
Reminder that the karaoke contest uses the same rules as the open karaoke.
In other words music from Jpop/Kpop/Anime and Oversees Games (within reason)

I really don't know the answer to your second question.

In other news, big thanks to all the people signing up. Without the talented people willing
to put on a good show we couldn't run the contest. Reminder that the contest will be on Saturday
and the events people are working on a time even as we speak. Open karaoke on Friday is a good time
to practice for the contest. though you'll have to wait in a Que with other people. Lastly the main
post has been updated with a link to other karaoke events we are running through the weekend.
These include karaoke shuffle, karaoke challenge songs (Easy - Impossible). There will also be
some unlisted events we're trying for the first time. Once again thanks

can i change my thing to a duet cause me and my bf were thinking of doing a song together instead of just me doing a song by myself and will have out song in by the time its due by so will be ready
