Anyone up for some Mahjong?

Post by LegendofMyth »

There's a possibility I might be able to bring a small mahjong set to AB. I know there have been people who have played Go at AB before. Would anyone be interested at all? And if so what type do you play? HK Style, Chinese, Richii etc.

I would so be interested in this, if you would be willing to teach a novice. I play mahjong on the computer, which I am aware is nothing like real mahjong, but I have always wanted to learn.

From Eva? I meant Akagi from the mahjong manga/anime series "Akagi" by Fukumoto Nobuyuki.

My mistake, I meant to say Genma, not Gendo.

This is something I'd love to learn. I tried a few times, but I was learning from a book (and random episodes of Saiyuki), so we never got very far.

Out of curiousity, how long does a game generally last?

Games vary in length but the average I've found is ~15 mins.

Now I see there's alot of people wanting to learn how to play. Are there any people who already know how to play and want to? I'm willing to teach people to the extent of my knowledge but I'm not sure how times would work out as I'm probably going to be in the game room at semi-random times. I also only know Hong Kong style very well. I know how to play Japanese Richii style also (the kind in Akagi, Saki Etc) but I'm not as knowledgeable in that variant. As time gets closer I'll update as to whats going on.

I would LOVE to play. I was taught a couple years ago in the cutthroat world of a 55 and older retirement community. My grandparents live 40 or so minutes away so I don't get to play as much as I'd like.

like I said, I'm not an organizer by any means. I'm just a guy who wants to play while in the game room. I'll be happy to teach some people with what I know from HK Mahjong and Japanese Richii. Only thing I normally have trouble with is the scoring, but its not that bad. Keep in mind though I'm not amazingly good or anything, I just normally play online and with family/friends.

There seems to be a decent amount of interest so once I get ahold of the AB schedule, I'll set a time that I'll be in the game room. The only problem I see is that I'll only have 1 mini set on me. It's fine for teaching but mahjong is only a 4 person game, so I don't know how that's going to work out?

>8D Once you have the times, I am /so/ there. I love playing mahjong, riichi or HK~~

I have a set, and I have a hotel room to put it away in, so I'd be happy to bring mine as well, if you'd like!!

Alright. I've viewed the preliminary schedule and I think the time for this will be around 1pm on Saturday. I'll definitly be in the game room at 1 on saturday and possibly might be there at 12 depending on what I have going on. I'll bring a normal sized set if I can't get a small set.

As said earlier I'm willing to teach people how to play basics. Stuff like how to assemble a hand, special hands etc. I can teach basics and stuff for both Hk Style and richii but I won't teach scoring as I still have trouble with that.Hk scoring is somewhat easier but japanese scoring gets kinda crazy. If someone here whose coming wants to explain it then they can.

So once again ima say 1pm on Saturday in the game room, unless people object. The only noticable way to find me is to look for the 17 year old looking kid with a swiss army backpack next to him. I'll take out the Mahjong set at 1pm though, so I shouldn't be hard to spot.

How long do you think it'll go for? I wanna try catching the "Dubs that Time Forgot" at 1pm, but I can always leave that early (or skip, if you can't change the mahjong time). I would love to learn me some mahjong, though, rather than just watch Akagi kick ass at it. XD

I'll probably be there in the room until a little before 4ish. As far as how long the actual teaching and gameplay goes for, I'd say 1-2 hours, but time will tell.

I should be able to make it!! I'm no good at keeping track of score either, but I should be able to teach, and would definitely like to play some hands~
