Abby is the artistic type who is cool and calm on the outside but indeed warm and caring on the inside. And Rose is a typical schoolgirl who is smart and independent with a good girl image.”

It is a nice bonding time between generations and shows hobbies that can be shared with two people from different times.”

Entry Backstory: “During the age of Pop Art in the sixties was also a booming age for romantic comics. Stories meant to attract a female audience, always about love, peril and the ever-happy ending. Though intentionally or not, the Japanese mirrored this with a wide variety of romance mangas. Their heroines were always adorable, with vibrant, doll like eyes and over the top lace covered dresses, with hair draped in flowers and bows. I find this style of Japanese manga both unique and stunning in contrast to today’s manga. To me, this is retro and an art in its own respect.”

Side By Side
Medium: pencil, ink and copic markers
Entry Backstory: “We all have numerous memories from our childhoods to be sure. I remember fondly playing with the neighborhood kids outside; running through the woods and shooting hoops at the neighbors house, who was the only one on the block who had a goal to shoot in. For myself and a friend of mine, Nate, the anticipation grew towards the end of the day when the Sun began to set and we all were called in for dinner, because afterward, it would be gaming time.
Now, this was a time before the internet and of course, smart phones. The games did not have high definition graphics nor did they have online multi-player options, giving us an excuse to sit alone and away from the people we gamed with. No, back then, we sat next to each other and experienced the magic together.
I'm 36 now and I still game from time to time. It's bothersome to know that a good portion of young gamers today won't experience sitting side by side with a buddy, shoving them playfully when their ahead on points while playing a racing game, or even hitting the reset button when your opponent is about to hit you with a fatality. I hope I'm just out of touch and these experiences are still taking place in homes throughout the world because there is truly nothing like the joy one can get from multi-player gaming without the headset and necessity for decent Wi-Fi.
Nothing beats sitting next to a friend.”
