what is the definition of homemade?

You don't need to be in costume to post in this cosplay forum... but sometimes it helps.

what is the definition of homemade?

Post by cherrie » Sat Nov 24, 2018 9:00 pm

For masquerade, it says all costumes should be homemade.
Does that mean WE have to make it or is it okay to commission it?
Also, is it okay to buy friend's used homemade costume?
I'm talking about the skit/dance
thanks!

"1. Costumes purchased or rented, or any costumes made by a professional designer or seamstress, are prohibited from craftsmanship judging."

There are a few small exceptions as seen in subsection 2 but as far as commissioning or buying a used costume, that would not be eligible to enter with.

Oh but we are not doing the craftmanship. We are just doing the dance from anime. Are we still not allowed buy those?

"Exception 3: For groups who are interested in presentation awards only (and do not intend to undergo Craftsmanship judging) the Masquerade Coordinator may be more lenient about the proportion of store-bought items in each costume. Individuals are still required to have some homemade items in the costume."

As stated in my previous reply, we are more lenient when it comes to "store bought" items if you're doing presentation only and that's definitely the case as far as shoes and wigs go. Best of luck with your costume!
