Tips to save money to buy costume

Post by josewhite »

Hello,
I'm 19, and only have $200 saved up for Anime Boston. Once I register and buy the rest of my cosplay I'll be left with about $70.

Are there any tips for saving money? I want to get more cosplay costumes. :D

With $70 left, try thrifting or DIYing cosplay pieces. Check for sales and maybe sell some old stuff to add to your budget.

These strategies may help you save money and buy more cosplay costumes:

Create a budget: Stick to your costume budget. Avoid overspending and make sensible financial decisions using this.
Plan ahead: Start saving early for the costume you want to make or buy. This gives you time to save and prevent last-minute charges.
Shop wisely: Shop for cosplay supplies, patterns, and costumes at discounts. For cheap possibilities, explore thrift stores, garage sales, or online marketplaces.

I am going to assume you have some sort of income. XD

Anyway, one thing to do is to think differently than the norm. The norm is basically spend first, then save the leftovers. Instead, you should be saving first and then spend what you have left. It really doesn't have to be a lot either. Let's say you save $5 a week starting in September. By Christmas, you would save up to $80.

Another thing is to put it away from your general spending money. You can create a new bank account, preferably Savings. If you don't want to do that, you could also try the envelope stuffing method of removing the money and putting it in a savings jar/envelope. Just remember, the money in there is for saving, not spending and it is really tempting to use it...

Lastly, budget. Find out where you can cut. For example, paying for Spotify when you are ok with the free version with ads.
