Post by KAIN SLICKER »

For those who saw the previews to episodes 1 and 2 of Speed Grapher on Friday, hosted by its English Director Chris Bevins and "Tsujido" Greg Ayres.

Sorry kids, this discussion may not be for you. To see this series, you had an 18+ carding (just like the bars). Otherwise, you're turned away.

Why you ask?

The synopsis goes like this:

Saiga Tatsumi is a war photographer, who gets turned on sexually by taking pictures of death.
Except one day his sexual desire becomes reality - and he literally takes pictures of death.

Then he realizes there's others like himself, those with desires for sexual pleasure incarcerated in material things from diamonds to dentistry, and the list goes on.

Curious?

Then again, this is Xyberia that is Albert Gore's Internet - anyone can join this discussion. Be not afraid and

[Once more]
Welcome to Speed Grapher.

By the way, I want all you Duran Duran folks to return, from the last conversation.

The one thing that astounded me, myself and I -

Is it just us, or did no one ELSE realize that this convention was full of Speed Grapher production staff/voice actors?

Let me go down with the obvious:

1. Chris Bevins; the guy directed the English translation of it.

2. Clarine Harp; She's the voice actress for Ginza, the gun-toting white haired, boobulicious cop.

3. Greg Ayres; the VOICE of Tsujido, the seemingly transexual gendered henchman of Suitengu, with a nose patch.
*and it is Chris Ayres who voices Suitengu

4. Shuizlow HA; that's mother-fing right. The man who created the visuals that is Speed Grapher itself, the art, the designs, the characters, the villans, the lusts, and the pedophiles.

Getting the Suitengu wings signed by these 4; but what else could I say - Son of a mother-forker, I absolutely didn't expect that at Animeboston.

Especially when you consider how new Speed Grapher is still - take for example the fact, out of the 45 pictures taken of myself (I counted methodically yes), only ONE man knew who I was.

We met in the bathroom, I'm taking a number one. The guy says - "I KNOW YOU! You're name is Chouji".

Now that is dedication - as those of you who watched Speed Grapher will understand, why. For those who haven't, Chouji is Suitengu's real name.

But who is Suitengu?

All you have to do is

Speaking Suitengu -

Why don't we analyze this villain, shall we.

Or is he a villain?

Could Suitengu be a victim of the Japanese economy that surrounds him in his present day "future"?

Or is he a mafioso type that simply wants power.

It's significant to realize, as much as this series EVOKES OF PORNOGRAPHY AND GANGSTERISM.

Not once does it mention the word Yakuza.

And neither is it a hentai - for it is quite the contrary of a hentai, in that this series is more developed (where the "carnality" is exposed, at the expense of the character's nature and persona - and it is lust, that creates those characters of Speed Grapher).

This Series could very well be called, after all -

"Once Upon a Virgin Masochist"

One could even say Saiga is the villain as well. The guy takes pictuers of death, does he not?

So in order to appease his desire - he needs death, because that's Saiga's power (to take pictures of people, and KILL them).

Though Saiga doesn't kill people intentionally - he's just caught in the act, hence the Bubble War that occurs when Saiga is shooting during the first episode.

Saiga doesn't care as long as he's got that picture, and it's only UNTIL he realizes his desire is an actual translation into reality -

i.e. after he encounters the GODDESS -

Then Saiga understands, the ultimate destruction of his lust.

Anyone else notice that Suitengu looks like Hayashimizu from Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu and both characters have the same dub VA (Chris Ayres)?

Oh, and Chris Sabat is AWESOME as the detective. My question is, why is the show called Speed Grapher? I thought it was gonna be some racing anime that has a guy who... graphs. :p

Quickly before I jet to my job - Speed grapher is an interestingly unusual name for this series I agree. It should havebeen called Bondage Euphoria or justly as Duran Duran called it but with a twist "GIRL(Z) on FILM"

Because what else do we think of regarding speed?

Drugs right? And it's exactly like that - Saiga is on speed or a mutation from the Goddess. That's why he kills people with his camera. As for the grapher part.... make he can graph people until they die as well?

Regarding Suitengu and Hayash and Chris Ayres - another interesting factoid.

The Japanese voice actor who did Suitengu AND Griffith from Berserk - is also the same guy.

Comparing all these parallels together, we have a cross of same voice-actors performing for young stud villains, who have white long hair. And now, they're beginning to wear shades/glasses.

I've never seen a character like Suitengu before, in that he's your Japanese cuthroat gangster, while a victim of the economic crisis, and a loving B(##&er. It's blanked out for spoiler reasons, not a swear.

Though I hope that entices everyone to pursue the series even more NOW.

Or, for those who saw it at Anime Boston???

Anyway, I really liked the dub. Chris Sabat is amazing as the main character. Much different from the usual stuff he does (Piccolo, Vegeta, Kuwabara, etc.) Chris Ayres is also terrific as Suitengu (who, coincidentally, looks somewhat like Hayashimizu from Full Metal Panic! Fumoffu?, who is also played by Ayres).

I wanted to say that my boyfriend & I have seen Volumes One & Two of "Speed Grapher". I watched it in Japanese w/English subtitles, and my boyfriend watched it English dubbed.

We both like it alot, we enjoyed what we've seen so far!! *gives thumbs up*

I'm curious about one thing: I can't remember the character's name at the moment, but it's the one who has the black covering over her nose, and she uses her sense of smell to sense where Kagura is. Why does she have the covering over her nose?

AHA - You are talking of TSUJIDO. I would explain more about Tsujido's nose, except it is a spoiler if I did. Trust me, you'll understand everything clearly (later) without getting a mind-bake a cake.

As for Tsujido's sex - I thought it was a she at first as well. In fact, it is in fact a "he" who likes to dress flamboyantly. (And Greg Ayres plays the American voice over for Tsujido).

I always thought the English voice actor who did Vicious on Cowboy Bebop, Paul St. Paul aka Francis Cole, WOULD have been Suitengu.

Chris Ayres makes an intriguing match nonetheless.

I hope you are understanding the story of Speed Grapher so far, Usagi?

Ah, it's Tsujido? Ohh, OK!! Thankees for reminding me of the name, I appreciate it.^_^

OOPS!! Tsujido's a male? Ahhh...*nods*^_^ I'm happy to know I'm not the only one who got confused about his gender at first.

OK, I will be patient and wait to find out later on what's up with his nose. :D

Yes, I understand the story so far. Thank you for asking.^_^ I feel bad for Kagura, with what the doctor found out after running those tests on her...

Hi KAIN!!^_^ Well, I have seen all of Volume 3 twice, and I most definitely do see the meaning of your cosplay from AB06!! :)

Suitengu certainly has quite a power!! WOAH!! WICKED!!

Do you think I'd be giving spoilers away if I mention what I thought about Suitengu and his plans with Kagura's mother, and also Kagura's mother's past? I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't seen it yet...

Good to hear from you Ms. Usagi. I've been away helping out with that rebukulous Game Plan movie feat. The Rock. Now that my contract is done, let me help you with spoiler tags.

When you type a post, in this message box, look in the top left corner section where there are 10 small boxes. Of those 10 small boxes, the one in the lowest right corner is the "spoiler" tag.

In the question, you put the subject of the spoiler, i.e. "Click here to find out what happened in Speed Grapher, when Suitengu tries to get it on with..."

[spoilerq:1]Why was Kain Slicker a "Walking Spoiler"?[/spoilerq]
[spoilera:1]Watch Episode 10, of Speed Grapher[/spoilera]

Just following the prompts, and it's a neat Q & A box that allows you to add spoilers here.

NOW! I am glad to see that someone finally understands the meaning of my Suitengu cosplay. It is with salicious sadism to hear that, and I commend you for being the first at that understanding.

[spoilerq:1]And now you see why, at AnimeBoston 2k6, the Director of Speed Grapher said[/spoilerq]
[spoilera:1]You are a Walking Spoiler! (But they won't know that till 6 months later)[/spoilera]

Hello, KAIN, it's good to hear from you again.^_^ The Rock? I don't think I've ever heard of that...?

OH!! Thank you for explaining to me and showing me spoiler tags!! That is so neat!! I have always wondered how people do that, I've seen people at other MB's post links to quizzes that are words, such as "Clickers" or "Click here". I'm sure it's similar to spoiler tags. And now I know how, thanks to you.^_^

Thank you for commending me about my understanding about youer cosplay!! YAAAAAYYYY!! :D

I didn't know what the word salacious meant, so I had to look it up. Now I know what that means. :) I also tried to look up rebukulous, but I couldn't find it.

It's not long till Volume 4 of "Speedgrapher" comes out now, huh? :D

Speaking of Speed Grapher Volume 4, when in hades is that supposed to be coming out?

And about The Rock, he's aka Dwyane Johnson (the wrestler turned actor, who has starred in The Scorpion King, The Mummy Returns, The Rundown w/ Chris Walken, the video game movie DOOM, and most recently Gridiron Gang).

As for the word rebukulous, ho ha - I actually made that up, it's a Bushism that was probably meant to be invented but perhaps not yet (yet).

So are you going to consider cosplaying as Speed Grapher characters? Tell me what you think about the Shinsen Suitengu relationship. I really want to discuss this at last, with someone who's actually watched Speed Grapher.

Hello, KAIN!!^_^ Well, I have seen Volume 5, and I learned about the music that Saiga whistles every so often, and also about what happened to Tsujido. I felt bad for Suitengu on that morning, when he was 13, and he and his sister got seperated... :(

I also was amazed with the "Good Vibrations" ep., with Seiji Ochiai's power.O_O

I also felt bad for Kagura, when she took ill and was almost taken advantage of.

Tell me if you break tears of blood after watching the last 3-4 episodes. Once you see how everything connects together, it diehardingly becomes the Shakespearean pulp fiction that one knows you'd see in anime as opposed to the stuff that other TV series could make up (and sure enough it's out there - this series proves it).

If you'd watched NipTUCK or Dirt on FX, I'd argue you'd see some dopplegangers here and there (except one takes the form of plastic surgery, the other about tabloids).

The thing that always kept me going in this series was - What in the Uranus is going to happen next (whether it was divorce, massacre, invasion, pharmaceutical conspiracy, or pedophilia).

In totality, fatality, and animality:

You're almost there Usagi.

Since Blue Sub No. 6, and Last Exile, this was one of the better series that Gonzo put out there (this after watching Trinity Blood and Gantz - don't get me wrong both were great series, but if you really knew the history behind these stories, they you'd know what was butchered - everything in leverage of course).

Speed Grapher has a beginning middle and end.

So far my only co-Axis of Evil is Katsu's cosplaying from Speed Grapher as Suitengu, but 3's a crowd.

No bother at all, and may you enjoy the convention.

- but if you should see Chouji Suitengu again at the convention this time, be sure to greet him a curtsy.

- or a trillion dollar cigarette

- or just holler "Suitengu Cometh"
