Teens at AB2010?

If you need a room or a ride, this would be the place to make a new friend. Please note that this is NOT a place to discuss anime in general. In addition, this is NOT a relationship or solicitation forum, either.

I'll say. Last year it felt like the Under 18 outnumbered the Over 18 by at least 2-1. @__@

Considering that I was born before that movie came out and most of the people at AB weren't...yeah. Probably.

I'm going to be at AB (I'm 15). I noticed a lot of under 18 con-goers last year.

THIS.
Last year it felt like the Under 18 outnumbered the Over 18 by at least 2-1. @__@
Don't have access to the Reg data anymore, but as I recall it, the primary demographic was between 15 and 18 years of age...
but yeah...teens...everywhere...and 14 yr olds o.o

ALSO THIS.

Trust me. You have nothing to worry about if you are a teen. The 18+ programming goes on late at night and still there is counter-programming to that.

It people like me and my age-30+ cohorts who are the odd ones out here. Us old people need to stick together. (Maybe we can all chat with the parents who are bringing their kids to AB for the first time!)

Yes, I remember a lot of teens last year and a scary amount of them crashing overnight Sat to Sun in the Sheraton lobby / lounge area.

Made me think "Where are the parents?"

BTW I am a runner. My life clock been flashing for years now.

This is why we can't have nice things.

Seriously. The Sheraton doesn't like that.

That's so true! I honestly feel as though the Sheraton treats us con goers poorly because we are...well...con goers. Then again, it's just speculation, but I get along much better with this particular hotel when they aren't aware of my Con Status lol.

Also, it is mostly "teen demographic" that I see stuffing 8-16 people in one hotel room which is not only uncomfortable, it's SO DANGEROUS! It's no wonder the Sheraton upped their check-in age policy honestly.

But now I'm getting off topic. Yes, you teens have nothing to worry about. Actually, most of the people I end up hanging out with at cons completely by accident (just meeting in the halls) end up being about 3-5 years younger than me as a general rule (And I'm only 20 right now!).

But it certainly seems as though the older groups tend to outnumber the younger on the forums though, based on the trend I've seen/

If your 17 or younger please follow these rules to have a great time.

[color:purple]HOW TO CREATE A SCHEDULED GROUP ACTIVITY ON A FORUM:

1. Designate a meeting spot.
1a. Make sure it is out of the way of traffic
1b. Make sure everyone knows and agrees to the spot.

2. Designated times to meet at these spots that everyone can agree to.

3. Designate group activities you can do at your age. Local museums, go out to eat away from the con, or choose one of the MANY activities at the con.

4. Stick with the plan no matter what and do not let anyone sidetrack your group.

5. Have fun!
[color:brown]
HOW TO BEHAVE AT A CON:

1. Cons are not places to "hook up". It is illegal for adults to "hook up" with children and sometimes people do not check ages. Also it is dangerous and has serious life changing ramifications.

2. Always bring a friend. This helps when you get lost, or if you get hurt.

3. Always bring money for food, cab fare, the T, and the Commuter rail.

4. Bring a calling card. Never know when you need to make a quick call.

5. Stay in a hotel ROOM. Do NOT squat in the halls.

6. Do not try to get cigarettes off the smokers.

7. Do not try to find "booze". Its not happening no matter how much you say "but my parents let me drink at home!"

8. No violence.

9. No vandalism, and throw all trash away in trash recepticles.

10. Do not create public disturbances.

11. Follow ALL State and Federal Laws not included in this list.

If you follow these rules you will improve the status of the con.
The hotel will treat us better.
The Hynes staff / Security will treat us better.
The Mall Security and Staff will treat us better.
Also, The other con-coers will have more fun!

I didn't want to have your whole post in the quote, but its always amazes me what people think they can get away with.
I think part of the reason why parents let them off is trust. I act completely different at cons then I do at home...granted my con behavior is not illegal or life threatening, but I would never act like that at home. Some people just take this to extremes.

i feel like those rules should be printed up and given out with each grab bag, but the people who wouldnt follow them wouldn't read or abide by them anyway :/

I've never hung out in the lounge for more then 10mins maybe, but thats while im waiting for people, but lots of people are just...chilling there doing w/e. Maybe it should be suggested to the hotel that they have a sign saying that the lounge is not a "hang out"?
If they already have one and my skills of noticing things has failed me yet again, please ignore ><

Trust me. Last year was my last ab under 18, and it is just the greatest experience of my life. Anime Boston will never cease to amaze me and I am filled with excitement for the years to come. There is plenty to do underage like the game room until i think 9, the panels and the main events, and the dealers and artist rooms. I have yet to be bored at this, or any, convention. the best reason i find hands down is the people. ALL OF YOU MAKE THIS EXPERIENCE AMAZING. so trust me kid, your gonna love it. XD

Dont forget all the movie and anime screenings.
Also, there is the live game room with all it offers. (there is more to do in there than the rest of the con IMHO)
Plus panels and workshops.
And the dances, and cosplay games.
so much more!

Here is another useful bit of advice.

Pick me! Pick me! I don't turn 18 until June. Think I'm the only one in my group who is under 19, and so far it sucks. Why do they get all the fun?

I'm a teen. And no, I do not plan on getting drunk, crashing in the hallways, hooking up with a 30-year-old-Itachi, or wearing a skimpy bunny outfit. Seriously?

It's disappointing the generalizations that are being made by the older people towards the younger people. I hoped that a shared passion for anime would bring us all together. Doubtless offense was not intended, but I ask that people approach the age differences with an open mind.
Excitement so thick, if I had a spoon I could not help but cut it.
