Things To Do In Boston (If youre staying with time to kill)
This is for people with nothing to do after the con is ended and your staying in Boston, or if you have time to kill.
I live in Dedham(bordering town about 10 minutes away) and I used to love to go into town with friends, without agenda, and have FUN. Boston=:D.
1. [color:red]Fenway Park/Yawkey Way- if you wanna go to a game you could always get cheap seats ahead of time (stubhub.com is your best bet on that) or risk it with a scalper (ones nearest to the gates themselves are always the most trustworthy), but even if you dont want to spend money on tickets, Yawkey Way(street of the park) has some very nice souvenir shops if youre a fan of the Sox, or even just Boston. Even if you dont want to spend a PENNY, you can just walk around and take it in because Yawkey Way is in my opinion a must-see if youre ever visiting. Also they have a couple nice bars and a place called Lucky Strike at the end of Yawkey Way that is a bowling alley/lounge thingy. Idk what they call it (http://www.bowlluckystrike.com/)
[color:red]
GO SOX!
2. [color:green]The Commons- if you like scenery and gardens, or just want to take a nice walk through Boston, make sure to head to The Commons, located next to the Downtown Crossing stop on the T.Beautiful foliage, especially in the budding months of Spring. It is beautiful, and on nice days have musicians panhandling. Ive actually socialized with some of them, nice people. Especially a guitarist named Manny. Quite awesome. ANYWAYS. Beautiful Walk. And they have swan boats. Idk if you gotta pay to get on them but they take you around a lake and do stuff. Idk. Ive never been on but they look cool.
3.[color:black]Newbury Street- Not that far from The Commons is Newbury Street. Im not totally 100% on the directions but if you ask around somebody will be able to point you in the right direction. Its a very long street lined with a lot of very pricey stores. Lots of preppy stuff and vogue-ish type things. Not my cup o' tea, but hey somebody might wanna splurge on their trip into Boston, you never know. But this street pays off for the walk as you get farther into it. (if you start off at the marriot copley end not the best buy end.) Theres also a hookah cafe with an outside patio. You might be able to bum a puff if youre nice.
But as you go down further, you'll come across Sugar Heaven. And thats exactly what it is. Sugar. Heaven. It may be a bit tiny but its crammmmed with all sorts of candy and what not. After suffering from sugar induced comas you can continue on down Newbury to what else? Newbury Comics. Great store for music, cds, lps, random stuff/merch, movies, books, action figures, blahblahblah. Comic stuff. This store might be actually perfect for con people because its right down their alley.
Then downstairs from Newbury Comics is CONDOMWORLD. yes, condomworld. The name is kind of misleading because when I strolled in there i was expecting an awesome, fun safe-sex abiding prophylatic paradise. But no. There was an itty bitty section for condoms then the rest was porn, bacholerette/bachelor stuff, sex toys, and my favorite part, the pieces section. They have a nice array of pipes and bongs under a couple of the glass counters. Quite random, but that was my purpose, other than condoms, to go in there and splurge.
Then thats pretty much it for Newbury Street.
4.[color:purple]Random stuff- Food places
Chipotle-good burritos for not bad prices
Coldstone-orgasmic ice cream. yes i said orgasmic. lil pricey but if you tip they sing for you. lol fun fact.
Dicks Last Resort- restaraunt with good food, but people go here for the experience. Basically, the staff here treats you like crap, but in a funny way. quite fun, and its actually kind of cheap. live music as well most of the time. Located in quincy market. mapquest it. (ps lots of good stores in quincy market as well)
Any questions just reply and Ill help the best I can.

On that note, if you have the cash flow and time, you should check out Top of the Hub for dinner.
It's down in the shopping distict of Boston, in the preduential center, and it's pricey. But the food is amazing, and the view is breath taking.
If you're strapped for cash, like I usually am. Then just walk down Newburry Street. The shopping is pricey, but they have a ton of places to eat that will accomodate any wallet. From the low dollar quick shops, to the larger dollar sit and eat locations. Very nice, old style, Boston view too.

>__< No thanks, I think I'll stay away from the Fenway Park area. I didn't bring my motorocycle helmet so I don't want to risk getting K-Oed by a Red Sox fan (I'm an upstate New Yorker).

Well, you won't be the only New Yorker in town. The Mets will be playing at Fenway that weekend.

It is called Boston Common.
It is at the Park Street (Red&Green lines) and Boylston (Green line) T stops.
The Swan Boats are in the Boston Public Gardens, which is next to the Common, near the Abington (Green line) T stop.
If you're going to give sightseeing advice, you may want to make sure you tell people the right names of places.

The Prudential Center. Which is connected to the Hynes Convention Center and the Sheraton Hotel, which is where AB is.
Note: You have to go DOWN an escalator by the doors inside the Prudential Center mall that go into the Prudential Center building to get to the elevator to go UP to Top of the Hub.
Newbury. new-berry. not new-burry or new-bur-e

Thanks for correcting me on that Pham.
I'm always getting the names Arlington and Abington confused.

Another fine example of why I dis-like the north so much, especially the Boston area.
The guy tries to be one step ahead of people who may be visiting the area, but giving some information on places to check out (not miss) while they are in the area.
It would have been easy to say "hey, here is how you get to it, in case you wanted to check it out without walking." And simply stating "You'll find it online as Boston Common, but a lot of people call it "The Commons""
-The End.
Instead... you have to call him out, and make a rude comment that he can't give advice without pleasing the local Boston public with dropping the plural.
There is a reason the word Mass-h**es was created. Be mindful of your audience, a correction can be made without insulting someone else.
*Looks down*
WHO the heck put this soap box under me?!?

I didn't read it like that at all, and in all actuality, it wasn't as rude as you're saying it is. I would much rather have Fetch correct him than go all the way to the wrong stop and get completely lost if I was a tourist.

To be fair, I wasn't sure if it was Common or Commons myself. I just call it B.C.

Coldstone-orgasmic ice cream. yes i said orgasmic. lil pricey but if you tip they sing for you. lol fun fact.
There is _way_ better ice cream in Boston than Coldstone. I already wrote up a list of good local ice cream places here: showtopic.php?tid/6803/tp/1/ so I won't repeat myself, but if you think Coldstone is the best Boston has to offer you've really missed out.

I'm not allowed to leave until my tour is up, or I'm AWOL. :p That would look HORRIBLE on my criminal record...
wait...er... I mean... if I had one of those record things.
And I realize the Fetch was trying to be helpful, however, the part that "irk'd" me, and made it rude was:
It... could have been addressed better. Especially with himynameisjonnot being so helpful.
I hear a lot of locals call it "The Commons" all the time, so I would never have thought any different about telling someone else to visit the 'commons'.
himynameisjonnot made a mistake (if it could really be called that), Fetch's first comment about the name and location would have been fine. That last sentence, was not needed in the least.

Berryline is opening up on Boylston Street (In the Trilogy building in Fenway). It is about a ten minute walk from the Hynes, within spitting distance of the Coldstone and should be open by May.
Boston is actually famous for its ice cream, mostly courtesy of Steve Herrell in the 1970's. Look him up, he more or less invented what we take for granted as contemporary premium ice cream.
You would do good to try a place that isn't a national chain like ColdStone that uses all sorts of chemical stabilizers, artificial flavors, milk that contains rBST, and glycerides from cheap high-fat hydrogenated oils. ColdStone's ice cream has a 12 month shelf life. Local places donate or toss out their ice cream in less than a month or so. Fresh ice cream is an experience worth giving yourself.
If I see anybody with Coldstone cups they will get a long, boorish lecture on the merits of real ice cream.

I thought it was rude when I read it...the guy is trying to help people out with sight seeing....and he was really helpful in doing it.
Why was it necessary to add that last remark? Just correct him and be glad you helped.
Lastly......if someone says they have had problems with people from Boston....why on earth would you say "why are you here then?"........come on seriously.
It's just the whole mind set of saying "Don't come here if the people were rude to you." that annoys me.......If a place of Boston is worth seeing and you are debating on going because the people were really rude....you don't say "O, then don't come here then."
Anyway...thanks for the advice to all the people who gave advice.....it helped.

Because I like being a bitch, just like you're being right now.

I don't care if it annoys you. It's the truth. If you don't like the people here and the people's attitudes, why come here? Let alone whine and complain about it.

Lose the attitude.
If you walked up to me and called me a bitch, instead of saying it on a forum, I'd laugh in your face.....this is such a petty argument....why PISS me off by calling me a bitch...?......
If I wanted to call you a bitch either now or earlier I would have, only it's sorta outlined in AB forum policies to show SOME respect to the other members....
(I didn't wana start a whole thing with why that guy's remark was rude or not,.....but seeing as how I wasn't the only one who did, I said something.)
If you wana disagree with my post then go ahead and do it...I'm not gonna flood this thread with why I think your wrong.....so get back to the topic....

I will close this topic, if it does not become civil and/or stay on topic. There is no need to drag such situations out any further. Move along now. Nothing to see here.
