Anime Boston

Oh how it's good to be back. Let the tradition continue.

That's right, Weather in Boston is back! This has been a long 2 years but it is what it is. Anyway, Anime Boston is going to be in late May this year. With a few more months away, I figured we should start earlier since, well, we are out of practice at this point.

Since we are talking about late May, we must talk about temperature. Temps should not be cold as it is more likely to be above 50F. However, there can be extreme heat of temps being in the 90s. Ok, it isn't really extreme heat but to full costumed cosplayers, that's brutal. As for precipitation, it is a mix. It can be perfectly dry with us being under a Red Flag Warning or it can be wet with heavy rain and thunderstorms.

Speaking of thunderstorms, this area is the biggest concern. Late May into Mid-June is typically a time of instability. To sum it up, it can be a nice sunny day and hours later, we can be under a Tornado Warning with hail, strong winds, and lightning that last 15 minutes.

Anyway, glad to be doing this again after such a long hiatus.

I’m expecting it to be either very warm and pleasant or hot. Last time AB was Memorial Day weekend I remember it being hot.

I have been keeping track of the weather for Anime Boston so I can give you some data....

Anime Boston has occurred in late May 3 times (2006, 2009, and 2013)
The average temperatures for May are Highs of 79.67F and Lows of 61.33F
The average wind for May is 13.33mph but there was a Max Wind Gust of 32.2MPH

Keep in mind, the end of May is actually still within our Fire Season (Red Flag Warnings) as well as the beginning of our volatile season (Severe Thunderstorms Warning and Tornado Warnings).

Oof, that weather potential. Making me reconsider wearing ANY of my multi-layered cosplays. Why do I cosplay characters with 3+ layers of outfit?!

Believe me, I get it lol. Most of my cosplays are also layers but I have a few I can chill in thankfully.

We are roughly one month away from Anime Boston. With that said, we are currently is our Fire Season (Elevated Fire). By next week, more reliable models should be beginning to predict Anime Boston weekend. I will mention though to not take them seriously as anything over 5 days can change dramatically. I will be planning on doing what I have done in the past though with a 14 day, 10 day, 5 day, and 3 day forecast.

Overall:
Looks like temps are looking to be in the upper 60s/70s throughout AB 2022. Rain on the other hand remains unknown.

In Boston, forecasts two weeks out are worth about as much as the pixels they are displayed on. Have another look in a week; by then the forecast will be SLIGHTLY more useful than that.

A week? Doesn’t really get accurate until about 4 days out in New England but a week out does give you a good idea of what to expect.

General Rule:

7+ Days - Take notice but don't take it seriously. Use it as a way to prepare what may be needed but don't pack anything.
3-7 Days - Although more accurate, it can still be completely off. This is when packing should begin.
1-3 Days - Yes, this is as accurate as it can get. However, this time could be considered 85-90% accurate, leaving 10-15% doubt.

This general rule is the reason why I mentioned the 14 Day, 10 Day, 5 Day, and 3 Day forecast....

Time for an update as several local media outlets do a 10 day forecast.

I have missed this thread. So glad it's back! With single single digit count down now, I'll be checking in regularly!

I prefer when AB happens in May during the warming Spring weather. The harsh Feb-March April cold was miserable in cosplay.

So looking at the Weather Underground app, here's what next weekend is looking like so far:

Thursday (5/26): High 74, low 61, mostly cloudy with a 23% chance of rain

Friday 5/27: High 67, low 60, mostly cloudy with a 38% of rain and thunderstorms

Saturday 5/28: High 69, low 57, mostly cloudy, 24% chance of rain

Sunday 5/29: High 70, low 58, mostly cloudy, 24% chance of rain

Time for a weather update. Looks like the chance is high that at least one of the days will have rain of some sort. However, unsure as to time or intensity at this time. Also checking out wind direction as any that has an East location tends to mean that there will be a sea breeze...
