Mei Tei Closed

If you're new to the city or taking the T in from out of town, this is where you can get advice from people living in The Hub. Please keep discussion limited to things in and around Boston.

You can see by the reviews might be the reason.

Both seem to have good reviews, but no idea how far they are from the con.

The reviews in the first link are spot on. I ate there once last June. They're con artists. It takes alot of guts to serve bootleg cuisine. These guys make fast food joints look great and that's saying something.

First, they serve "food" one can find better quality versions of in your local supermarket or Super 88 (or the latter's Asian equivalent). Only they charge $10-$18 for it. They also pump it with ALOT of salt to hide this fact. Now we get to the billing. First off: And this is is something those who've eaten out enough times already know: TIPPING IS OPTIONAL. Even if they don't charge the meai tax YOU ARE NOT OBLIGATED TO TIP. When I went, I only paid for the food. They tried to collect tip so I told them straight-up to drop it or I'll personally see to it their restaurant is shut down for the glaring health code violations I noticed. After naming the first three, the waiter dropped the matter.

Not saying all restaurants are like this but if you enjoyed eating at this place, even on a budget there's just so many better choices out there.

Both of those are by Packards Corner station, which is on the Green-B line. A short ride from Hynes station.

Men Tei is actually not that great compared to other ramen spots in Boston. Inaka, like another poster mentioned, is awesome (and my personal favorite) but they recently closed for renovation.

Pikaichi is located next to the Super 88 Food Court. They have great ramen too but weird hours. There's also a Totto Ramen down the street but be warned, it's not the same as it's famous cousin in NYC - the ramen there is pretty awful, I strongly recommend not going there.

There's also Hanmaru, Yume Wo Katare and Sapporo Ramen. I haven't tried any of these but I've heard good things about them, especially the last two. The first is Korean owned but still has authentic Japanese ramen combinations.

Unfortunately none of these are really close to Hynes.
