Anime Boston 2016 AMV Contest - ENTRIES CLOSED!

Post by LantisEscudo »

Hey, everyone!

I'm happy to announce that Anime Boston 2016's AMV Contest is now open for entries!

You can find the rules here. Please check out the FAQ as well.

To highlight the changes we've made for this year:
  • New Category - There is a new Trailer/Commercial category for original and parody movie trailers, commercials, and opening sequences.
  • New Award - We've added a Coordinator's Choice award, which is open to all submitted entries, not just finalists
  • Collections of shorts no longer allowed - "AMV Hell" style entries are no longer accepted for competition
  • Shorter freshness period - The freshness period has been shortened to one year (from two years)
The submission deadline is 11:59PM Eastern on February 13th, 2016.

We look forward to all of your entries, and wish everyone the best of luck!

Just to clarify, we are still only allowed two entries, even if submitting into the new trailer category. If it doesn't have enough entires they get rolled into other.

Just a heads up to everyone, I'm going to be out of the country until December 5th, so I won't be able to respond to questions or send confirmation emails until I'm back.

Question, youtube watermarks are a no go for the contest either? or is that limited to TV watermarks.

Stepping out of my lane here but i'm safe with this one.

The rules apply to every video submitted. When it says no watermarks it means no watermarks of any shape or form no matter their source. Having been a prescreener, and knowing most of them, They will find it, Do not try to cover it up or crop around it, they will find it.

Also do yourself a favor and use a good source for your AMV, Youtube and every other online distribution point is not a good resource for high quality content.

Find a Blu-Ray/DVD and buy it. Support the industry.

Correct. Any form of watermark, no matter the source, is an automatic disqualification. Blurred/feathered watermarks also count.

What file extension does your file have? The form accepts asf, asx, avi, dv, dvx, flv, m2t, mkv, mov, mp4, mpg, mpeg, ogm, rm, swf, vob, and wmv.

That's odd, then; we've received several files already that use .mp4. I'd suggest checking and making sure that that's the actual extension, especially if you have extensions hidden on your OS. You also might check if you have a space between the dot and the extension.

If that's still not working, send me a PM and I'll look further into it.

Actually with the con approaching quickly, I was just starting the ground work for it.
Seems like people want it at Kings this year on convention Thursday..
Making phone calls and counting heads soon, no worries.

Re: Anime Boston 2016 AMV Contest - ONE MONTH LEFT

Post by LantisEscudo »

Hey, everyone,

Just a quick reminder that there is one month left until the submission deadline for the AMV Contest!

We've gotten a bunch of excellent videos already, but we can always use more.

Thanks to everyone who has submitted so far, and we look forward to all the videos that will be coming in over the next month.

Hey, Everyone!

Just a quick reminder that the deadline is only two weeks away!

We've got a lot of entries so far, but we're still low on Fun/Comedy and Other videos.

Thanks to everyone who's submitted so far!

And the rules for our Hentai AMV contest have gone up now, so please check that out as well!

No chance for an extension, is there? Been so much going on these past few weeks. (Had (dominant) arm surgery, grandmother was put in a home, school started and already being walloped with work and going back to work in a couple of days)

I know it sounds selfish, but I hope it is possible with others needing time too. It's been a Hell of a last month. If it isn't possible, that's fine, but I figured I'd put my bid down on a request.

I'm sorry to say that offering extensions this year is difficult, since the prescreening date is already set and there isn't much time between the current deadline and the screening.

Hey, everyone!

We're down to the last day! If you haven't filled out the form and uploaded yet, get cracking! There's less than 24 hours left to do so!

If you uploaded your video in the last day and haven't seen a confirmation email yet, I'll be verifying your entry in the morning and you should see the email come in then.

If you uploaded longer ago than that and haven't seen the email, send me a PM or an email through the Contact Form and I'll check what's up.

To everyone that's already submitted, thank you! We have a ton of great videos so far, and it's looking like we're going to have an amazing contest this year.

And that's the final horn!

We've reached the deadline, and entries are now closed.

We set a new record for the number of entries this year, crossing the 200 mark for the first time. I'll be posting final numbers and category breakdowns after the prescreening.

The prescreening is set to be done next weekend, so editors can expect to see finalist notifications go out on Monday or Tuesday (Feb. 22-23), depending on how long it takes to tabulate all the results.

Thank you, everyone, for all your entries! Best of luck in the contest!

Wow, awesome. I feel my fire actually burning out personally. MIGHT be my last year submitting. Hardly made it this year and been so busy to boot. Who knows though, we will see.

Anywho, for the guess.....

I am going to say 209.
