The Grand Prize winner will receive one free eight-foot table in the 2014 Artists' Alley, as well as a convention membership badge. One Runner Up will receive a free convention membership badge to Anime Boston 2014. All Honorable Mentions will be featured in the Art Gallery at Anime Boston 2014.
Entries were judged based on three criteria:
-Adherence to the 2014 theme of Magic & Mischief
-Creativity and Originality
-How well the artwork depicts the back story.
Judging was done by the Anime Boston Social Media Team, who organized the contest. Everyone put a lot of effort into the contest this year, and judging it was not easy.

In which time stopped for exactly an hour and fourteen minutes on a Monday afternoon, as a certain trickster locked the Head Wizards out of the Clocktower and wreaked havoc at its highest peak. The citizens outside the tower walls noticed nothing wrong when time resumed, except for the extraordinary moment when they looked up and caught a glimpse of a strange, pink moon.

Fox was upset to be left out as the Werewolves were creating the world. "Foxes just don't have the natural ability for Creation," they said. Fox enviously watched as Night was formed, longing to take part.
As the velvety blue creation dripped he waited until the pack was fast asleep. He crept up to the camp and stole enough hairs from each wolf to make a paintbrush. That very night he created the moon, and danced with it across the sky. Big brother Coyote was so amused by the trick that he laughs every time he sees it, even today.

Even the most enchanting ladies are known to break the rules. Belladona, apprentice to the greatest sorceress of the Northeast, is no exception. The book lay alone in the abandoned room, and a simple summoning spell sent it flying into her hands. The faeries of Frostborn Forest were sure to be real, and no amount of warning from her peers would cease her insatiable curiosity. The dangers of conjuring these mischievous creatures were plentifully highlighted throughout her lessons, but her confidence made her arrogant. After all, what good is magic without a little mischief?

Pip is a joke among the witches for being unable to fly a broom. Pip searched the library for spells to fly. Her two friends the vampire bat twins, Ghoul and Jack saw her upset and wanted to help. They looked around and found a special hidden book. Inside is a spell that transforms animals. She looks to her cat Broom and hatches an idea. She casts the spell and there's a huge explosion. Broom snatches her and puts her on his back. They leap out the window into the night. Pip now knows how to fly on a "Broom".

Heinrich had always loved making his portals in top hats, ever since they had become popular at the end of the 19th Century. It was his habit of popping out of them at inopportune moments which inspired magicians to pull rabbits from hats.
His penchant for mischief-making meant that, even at his age, (one hundred and fifty seven) he was still just a field agent. He loved this work though, imbuing objects in the mundane world with just a bit of magic, because, really, what was the world without a Spark of Wonder?

This is an image of two characters that will appear in my web comic. The man on the cliff who is fighting multiple enemies is a mage named Gexusaj who happens to be a homosexual. He was not excepted by his large family, friends, and his nation for this, so he went on a journey to search for a way to change himself. Gexusaj managed to find a masked wizard who offered a way to change him with the help of a powerful spell. Unfortunately, this masked wizard turned out to have evil intentions for Gexusaj, and things turned out tragic for him and his family in the end. Now Gexusaj knows there is no real way to change who he is and he has accepted it. Currently he is searching for a way to redeem himself to those he cares about and defeat this masked wizard. I will work on this image more towards the convention. I had computer problems recently.

One stormy night: A wizard who looked no older than 883 threw down his hat and went to bed. Lightning struck, an old wand came alive, all spectrum of light burst out, and magic filled the room with a whirlwind. As the dust settled, by the glow of the wand a shadow of a billowy tail went up, and down. Then a large clawed hand grabbed the wand and the old wizard's cap off the floor and placed it on it's head with a toothy grin. Completing an old wizard's lifetime of work to create Fabulok, a magic dragon!

The word magic has always reminded me of the world of witches and wizards. Mischief makes me think of something done in private, in hopes of not getting caught by disapproving eyes. This work began as just a young witch with a wand, but I realized it seemed almost as if she held her wand like an orchestra conductor. And so this became a young witch and a band of shadows, sneaking deep into the woods away from anyone else to create magic in the form of music.

You’ll look out the window today and see a friendly girl with a green dress, hat, and multi-colored lights popping from her hands and staff, summoning frogs to rain from the sky. They land with a tiny harmless plop, no worse for wear. To Catherine the Traveling Frog Witch, it’s a bit of harmless mischief; to you, it means a frog in your morning coffee!

ENTRY BACK STORY:
In the days of antiquity, magic was an art that was to be used for the good of mankind. Any individual who possessed magical powers were to only use it to protect and serve their fellow man. This was a law sanctioned by the Gods of Magical Recourse. All magic-users were to obey this rule, and most of them did. Breaking this rule would result in having one's power taken away from them.
But there was one who didn't care about the laws of magic.
Uadjit was an Egyptian snake charmer who caused nothing but mischief everywhere she went. With her staff, she would summon large serpents to her beck and call. She wanted the world to fear her, and craved absolute power. Of course, the Gods of Magical Recourse would not stand for this. She was becoming a serious threat to the world and needed to be punished for her actions.
So the hunt was on. Once the word got out, magic-users from different lands; wizards, witches, necromancers, and so on went to track down Uadjit and kill her.
Fighting her wont be easy...
