Announcing: The Phoenix Ball - Rise from the Ashes

Post by Hopallee »

We are happy to announce the return of our Formal Charity Ball, with a fiery look to match this year's convention.

Need to unwind after an event filled day at Anime Boston? Then why not spend the evening swaying to your anime and video game favorites, dressed to the nines! Come join us on for a sophisticated evening of excitement and rhythm at Anime Boston's Phoenix Ball.

Feel a little shy on the dance floor? A beginner's ballroom dance class is also planned earlier that day for those of you who would like to learn a few moves, meet potential dance partners, or just brush up on your technique.

Our Charity Ball, unlike its other dance counterparts, is a formal event. The dress code is Black Tie "invited". This means that attendees are encouraged to wear gowns and tuxedos, although semi-formal attire is acceptable. Cosplay is welcome, but must fit in with the formality of the occasion.

The Phoenix Charity Ball will be a limited capacity and ticketed event. Anyone who wishes to attend will need to sign up for a ticket beforehand. Tickets will cost $4, all proceeds will go to the Central New England chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The ticket charge is designed to continue Anime Boston's commitment to charity as well as reduce the number of people who reserved tickets "just in case" and then choose not to attend the ball, not necessarily to fund the ball itself. Half of the tickets are available online, and the remainder will be made available at the convention.

Update 3/14/12:

Unfortunately we have had some issues with the online system used to purchase tickets for the Pheonix Ball. While we hope the issue is resolved, we are aware that some bugs may still exist.

Rather than continuing to wait for all the bugs to be worked out, we are proceeding with the current system. However, please read the instructions on our Phoenix Ball page for instructions when purchasing tickets. They should help to avoid the issue that was occurring previously.

This would be acceptable as long as it is worn properly, and you have proper footwear - flats are recommended!

Yes, I was wondering if the ball tickets registration is working properly. I just signed up but it said 0.00 for the ball tickets and didn't try to charge me. Is that a mistake or is the money being collected when we pick up tickets at the con?

I can't say, I'm not handling that myself. Someone with more information will answer that question once it's all ironed out. Probably one of the Formal Ball Coordinators.

There was an issue with our ticket vendor Expo-Logic, which let people get ball tickets for free. Anyone who registered for a ticket but did not pay for it will have their tickets cancelled. We're still working out the problem, tickets will become available again once we have resolved the issue. We hope to resolve the issue as soon as possible, and we appreciate your patience.

I was wondering if anyone knows when the tickets will be on sale online? Or if the problem has been fixed? I've looked all over the website and I don't see a place to buy the ticket online. I'm starting to worry, what with the convention being so soon and all.

Can anyone help me out?

I'm getting worried. My gf and i go to the ball every year and we're afraid that we missed out chance to get tickets. Are they not available anymore and that's why i can't find anything on it? Or are they just not up for online sales yet?

I'm glad I'm not the only one stressing out about this.

I've been asking around and most of the people I ask also are not sure, however I emailed Anime Boston and asked them about it. I'll hopefully get some feedback soon, and I'll post what I find out on this forum.

Yeah guys, I honestly don't know. xD They haven't replied to my email yet. I check the forum and my email and the website everyday to see if there are updates or any new information about the tickets but no such luck yet. My friends and I are really looking forward to go to the ball as well, but I'm not entirely sure if we'll even be able to unless this ticket problem is sorted out.

I've noticed that too. I've sent the formal dance coordinator about three times in the past two weeks and haven't gotten any response from them at all. I check everyday too and there still isn't any updates. I'm getting highly distressed about it...

Everyone please calm down about the tickets. Our ticketing system is handled by a third party contract, and unfortunately there was an issue with the database. No one was charged for tickets, and as soon as the problem is solved there will be a new link posted to the front page. Keep your eyes on the website, tickets, as always, are first-come first-served!

It's time to get another third party client to handle the dance tickets (at least for next time).....You have to admit people are worried considering ther are only about three weeks left until the con, it's just natural to be concerned. We will wait patiently (like standing in the line of 2008) for the problem to be worked out.

"Badge name" is the nick name you picked out to display prominently on your convention badge. So, the badge will have your real name in very small type, then your "con nickname" in bigger type, like "Link" or "Charizard" or whatever you chose.

You can send a note to the registration staff using the contact form: http://www.animeboston.com/about/contact/ (Select "Registration Customer Service Manager" from the drop-down menu) Provide them with your registration info (real name, type of registration, date of registration if possible) They will be able to let you know.

I'm guessing that they want to know the badge name as well just in case there is someone else with your real-life name at the convention, so they don't get tickets mixed up.

Slight problem. I received an e-mail indicating that the Ball ticket issue has resolved and was given a link to start the process again. I followed the instructions as it said before I could make the order. I continued to click on the next link in which I was now directed to make the purchase for the Formal Ball. I put my information in and clicked submit. I then received an e-mail saying that I purchased a weekend pass for Anime Boston and $50 was withdrawn from my account. I sent an e-mail to the staff regarding this problem and have yet to get a response. Please can someone tell me what happened and how I can be refunded for this.

All those who have already purchased tickets can either pick up their
ticket an hour before the lesson or directly before the ball, in both
intances we will be handing out tickets outside the Sheraton Grand

I don't see a feedback for this. But I thought the ball was great except for a few things. For a few songs no one was sure of what dance it was since it was either not up on the screens or they kept switching,

Also, I really had wanted to do the Waltz of the Moon from Final Fantasy VIII. I had heard it for years straight and it was always my favorite. Maybe they'll play it next year? I really want to dance to it!
