The First Memory of AB05

Post by Reverend Mike »

I found an elevator with two guys in it. They'd been riding it...for hours. I soon joined them, and our group grew and grew till we were known simply as...The Mob. It was great fun, we ended up doing everything from duck duck goose to conga lines to walking up to people and just saying Heeeeeeeeeey! Anyhow, since my friend's list has been wiped along with my old name (Coindroppa) with the coming of these new forums, I'm using this to try and regain contact with some of those old crazy kids from AB05. Drop me a line! You won't regret it, and view my signature for more information on me.

Yeah...um...the hotel doesn't like it when people do that. They have specifically mentioned it. Please don't do it in the future. There are plenty of other activities at the convention...and most are a lot more fun than riding elevators.

My first memory of '05 is having to wake up early, go to ecology class, then run home to wake up the friend I had crashing in my dorm for the weekend so we could both get dressed in costumes and head for the T. We both had packed extras costumes as well, because we planned to participate in the Final Fantasy photoshoot.

My first memory of '05 was arriving Friday morning on the T, and thinking I'd be the only one in costume. As soon as I boarded the red line, I bumped into a whole group of Inuyasha cosplayers and overheard most of the other people on the train talking about going to the Hynes and picking up badges, and I immediately felt at home. xD

This past year, my boyfriend felt weird about taking the bus, but we ended up going home from the convention with a group of (I think) Death Note cosplayers. Commuter cosplayers are everywhere. I think it's fabulous.

my first memory was getting up at 4:30, waking up my cousin and my ex-boyfriend who were crashing at my house, have all three of us ready in costume so we could get there... my friend's car breaking down because she ran out of coolant (we had jugs of water in the car i was in for her... makes no sense)

and...then, getting there and within five seconds getting a million hugs

lol and my favorite memory- Getting in a fight with my boyfriend over something stupid, going down into the lobby of the hotel, and Greg Ayres being RIGHT THERE ^^

Everytime I think of 05, the very first memoriy that comes to me was the Yoko Ishida concert and Panel...she was so freakin cute... Thinking about it now...that it is over makes me wanna cry T_T. If 07 gets Nami Tamaki...I would faint in my shoes, Japanese girls are just kawaii-overdosage to me xD

AB '05: Let's see...

My flight from Philly being cancelled, being bumped to a flight that left 3 HOURS later than I planned, spending those 3 hours at the airport bar making friends with strangers (ie: trying to explain what an "Anime Convention" was...) and getting into Boston in barely enough time to make it to the Staff Meeting that night!

My favorite memory was meeting Monica Rial and talking to her about Hyatt from Excel Saga. Then I met Cynthia Martinez and we talked about Puni Puni Poemi and she did her Kaho (Sister Princess) voice me at her panel. <3 <3 <3 ... yes, I'm nerding out, I'm allowed :)

In '05 I had only gone Saturday because our Anime Club didn't make a whole group trip but one just for the Seniors so I went down with this bus from a different club in our school, while they explored Boston my friends and I went to convention and I remember walking in and my jaw just dropped(that was my first con) *thinking to myself and probably saying it as well*"This is like Anime Heaven! So godly and smexy!" i enjoyed just that day but then I went this year and i found the whole con is more enjoyable than just a couple of hours.

05 was the first time I was able to get a hotel room for the duration of the con. I think I also started a weird little phenomenon involving random dark-jedi action with a movie-replica lightsaber. T_T I still wonder how many cosplayers and guests I convinced to pose with that thing lol.

Man, AB05 was my first con, and it was more of me stopping and stareing at the rooms, the people, and the events. I was by myself, so that kinda sucked. I did meet a Gojyo and Hakki from Saiyuki who participated in the Masquerade.

I think My favorit thing though, was watching everyone play haki-sac outside of the game room. There had to be at least 20 people all in the same circle playing.

Another great time was waiting in line for the dance. I never actully got in, but I stood in line with the girl who cept thinking I was in college oO; She was fun to talk to though, she had many funny stories of her friends and what they do in college ^_^

My first memory of AB 05 was running out to the craft store first thing Friday morning to buy everything I needed to make a crosspunisher. It was my friends and my first convention and our first time cosplaying. We just did a small Trigun group, but it came out really good. My favorite memory was being tackled by a small Conan from Case Closed. I hated having to leave on Sunday...it felt like what I believe being kicked out of Heaven would feel like.

This wasn't my FIRST memory of AB'05 but it was the first of this kind. My friends and I were I guess just sitting around the convention center(on the 3rd or 2nd floor) and this random old guy came by us and like started talking with us asking if we were from New York (because one of my guy friends wanted to see if he could buy a New York Yankees hat in Boston, oviously he did and he was wearing around) and we were like "NO!We're from Maine!" and the guy was like "Oh" and just sat down next to us, but a little while later he started to take out this like Anime Porn with like lesbien porn and we were like "*sits a little farhter away*" We didn't know what it was because AB'05 was our first Con ever! Buit know we know what it is that the guy was showing us Hentai, and Yuri! but to this day we still call him the 'Creepy Old guy with Lesbien Porn!'

^^ That was my friend Staci and I. I was the Gojyo, she was the Hakkai.

My first memory of AB05 was getting to the Hynes 15 minutes before registration closed Friday night, and dashing through the hallways and up escalators to get there. ^^ It was a party.

What I remember best about Anime Boston 05 was when some of my friends and I got to visit a session by the writer of Dominic Deegan. I actually had never heard of Dominic Deegan until I went to the con that year and heard my friends mention stuff about it... But I really loved listening to him give pointers and tips on creating characters and storylines. It really amused me! ^0^

I also really enjoyed the fact that some of the mods from the Gaiaonline site came to show some of stuff they planned on releasing to the site for the future, and I thought it was really generous of them to give away posters to most of the people sitting in the room for their raffle they had. ^_^ I will never forget their generousities. <3

ab05 was one of my most favorite cons ever
it was one i did not cosplay in, but was known as the arucard without a hat
my greatest memory was smokin a cig with greg ayres outside and taking like 5 minutes to realize it was him
than he signed one of my cigs
i had it for like 3 months

just standing around in the halls with some online friends. The dealers room closed by the time I got there it sucked. I saw whose line is it anime though. It was good times. It was like the first time where everyone around knew what I was talking about it was sick.

AB05 was my first big con and I just remember the culture shock I felt when I was walking around on Thursday night and Friday morning!

Discussing early ABs with younger folk at AB 2023 jogged this memory...

Came in for our badges; Registration was actually in the Hynes (room 312 IIRC). My wife and I were walking through this monstrous, cavernous space, not believing for a moment that we could ever fill it.

Fast forward 10 years...
