sales tax questions regarding MassTaxConnect

Hi, all! We had some questions come in regarding submitting your sales tax ID in our form at https://www.animeboston.com/forms/exhibitor_taxid/.

Specifically, we had some questions about which number should be submitted. We need your 9-digit tax ID. That's what you'd get from the IRS and register it with Massachusetts in the MassTaxConnect system. We can't use your MassTaxConnect system ID. MassTaxConnect gives you a system ID for just that system so you don't have to log in with your tax ID each time.

We have to submit a report to the Division of Standards (not the Division of Revenue). I talked to someone there and confirmed we have to submit a list of everyone's 9-digit tax ID numbers.

MassTaxConnect is a new system used by the DoR at https://mtc.dor.state.ma.us/mtc/_/. That system should allow you to pay tax bills online and should also have plenty of answers for questions about everything required of you as it pertains to your responsibilities to pay sales tax.

You can always hit me up at the contact form if you have any questions.

Should we wait to see if we're accepted first and then we can submit it, I assume?

That's the best plan! We don't have to submit our report until more than a month after the close of the show, so there's definitely not a rush right now. Thanks!

Ok that sounds great. I have a MA Tax Account and Number so I'm not too worried. It's the one I have to submit for Arisia every year too.

Hi! I'm an artist from Brazil and I wasn't able to register my EIN with the DOR because I do not have an ITIN or a SSN. Is registering only a way to make it easier to log in when paying taxes or do I have to do it in order to participate in Anime Boston?

We would recommend contacting the Mass Dept of Revenue directly. Their contact info is on this page: https://www.mass.gov/info-details/dor-contact-us. They should be better able to help you than we can, since your case is a bit outside the norm for us.

Hi! I've generated my EIN and have registered with MassTaxConnect as a sole proprietor, but I'm a little confused. I'm a Massachusetts resident and did not have the option to enter my EIN when registering my business; instead, I was required to log in to my existing account and register a new account from there.

I now have a sales and use tax account connected to my regular tax account. That account has its own 8-digit id number with a 3-digit suffix, and when I called the DOR, the (very patient) person told me I should use that sales & use account number instead of my EIN.

Obviously this is an issue since AB is looking for a 9-digit EIN, so any advice on what to do would be super helpful! I have no idea whether I should just enter my EIN anyway, use my SSN, or enter my SLS account number and hope for the best.
