Selling 2D Homestuck Commissions IS LEGAL: FAQ Link

Post by KoriMichele »

Just for reference, here is a link to Andrew Hussie's legal page regarding the selling of commissions. It sounds like there has been some confusion about his policies.

He states clearly that unique, two dimensional fanart is allowed to be sold.

Thanks!

correction
he states clearly that 2d (one time, upon request, and unique) COMMISSIONS are allowed to be sold, which is not the same as mass created prints, which are not even mentioned at all.

BUT, we appreciate the link - my staffers had it up on saturday after massive conflicting information we were getting on site for the various tables selling "Homestuck" art - and it was very useful, and I'm glad to have it on record here in the forums so i can find it easily when i want it.

Ah,I thought that's what I'd said.

But yes. When it comes to the exchange of money for anything with a Homestuck image (that isn't licensed, obviosly), it has to be completely unique (meaning only one) and on request (commissioned, not premade.) And commissions of 3-d items (plush, cosplay elements) are not permitted at all.

It's the responsibility of the copyright holder to protect his/her intellectual property. So while having fanart policies at all have earned him some groaning, it's what he has to do, and lucky for everyone, he's made the limitations very clear.
