I didn`t have time to look through all the posts... but Koizora just came out in Japan and it`s insanely popular here. I`d love to see it at AB with some subtitles. ^_^

I know this is coming uber late, but I have a lot of Live-Action suggestions! I'm a big japanese drama fan as well as of japanese mainstream cinema. There are a lot of adapted movies and dramas from anime and manga that I'd love to suggest for AB to show as well.

Last year in 2007 I was disappointed when the Live Action Hana Yori Dango wasn't shown despite the schedule it had.

I suggest (despite their Johnny's Entertainment bias):
Hana Yori Dango 1/2/movie(coming soon)
HanaKimi (Hanazakari no Kimitachi e)
Akihabara@DEEP - this is a great 'otaku' drama that many would be able to relate with
Gokusen 1/2/3/specials
Kurosagi
Nodame Cantable
I have many more that I can't think of at the moment.

But I hope AnimeBoston will consider some of these!

Alkoi,

Did you catch the live action movie TRAIN MAN at AB2008 this weekend....I am also an asian drama/action cinema fanatic and this movie was really great! The whole crowd was engulfed in train mans emotional quest to catch the girl of his dreams....it was a breath of fresh air at the con this year.......I think when they look for AB09 suggestions I'll suggest a whole program room or at least a block of time in one of the rooms for live action cinema dramas and movies.

Ok, I am probably about to stir up a hornet's nest, but what is wrong with PGSM? (ducks under table in preparation of the barrage). I thought it was charming, and let's face it, while hubby was drooling over the senshi, I thought the episodes were pretty well written-ok, I also thought the generals were pretty cute.

Wouldn't mind seeing some of the sentai that Power Rangers is supposdly based on. I remember seeing the originals on an old midnight show on cable called Night Flight (this would have been in the late seventies, early eightes). Would be fun to see those in their original, unmodified form.

Wouldn't mind seeing some of the stuff suggested here as well. I probably need my horizons broadened as well.

The two death note movies would be amazing to see at AB09. Even though the ending is very inaccurate from the series, it was very well done.

And I'll Admit, it did turn me into an L-aholic.

So I see that CTcon is going to be playing this, and I am fully intending on going to see it there if I can, but I think AB could benefit from showing it as well.... it is, after all, a classic.
Live-action Grave of the Fireflies. (I'll be bringing a pack of tissues if I can make it to this screening, if the LA is HALF as good as the anime I'll be bawling.)

Okay,edit!
Technically,
Kamikaze Girls
Hula Girls
and
Maiko Haaaan!
are all movies in their own right, not based on an anime,so I guess @ LA movie showings they wouldn't count...

Not that I've heard. Unless it's a seperate thing, they pretty much ended the storyline with "the last name".

It's called "L: Change the World" from what I hear. [spoilerq:1]Spoiler[/spoilerq]
[spoilera:1]Supposedly it's about L's last 20-something days before he dies[/spoilera], this is all hearsay though.

Ah, I know what you mean. Haven't seen that one, but I hear its a semi-prequel to the second. You got me :-P

Anyone heard of Koi No Mon? It's a really awesome movie about two otakus who fall in love... kinda... >> It would be so perfect for the Con xD

Some other movies I'd love to see at AB09 would be Waruboro, Linda Linda Linda, and some of their TV Shows. Like Hana-Kimi, Nodame Cantabile, and Hataraki Man. I so love Japanese Live Action <3

First of all, I didn't know there was a live-action of The Grave of the fireflies!!!!!!!!!!

How is it???? As good as the anime?????

Hopefully if AB09 does take into serious consideration a live-action room or block they have a variety of genres and not just one style of live-action.

I would love to see "Last Quarter" I've been dying to see it since I caught the trailer on one of my anime discs.

I found it, but I haven't watched it yet. It's such a depressing movie..... it's hard to find the inclination to sit and watch it. ; ;

I know this is a general post but if anyone has any recommendations for really good mystery/yakuza/detective live action films this might be a good year to suggest them as it'll tie in with our Mystery theme, thus more likely to get pushed through and shown if they're a little obscure.

Thanks!

Hope, this list should help. CDJapan's Mystery and Suspense section looks interesting as well. I am also checking out this article about a movie called Nightmare Detective by Shinya Tsukamoto, and Nighmare Detective 2 is set to be released this 2008 the article says. Hope this helps, good luck!

What about 18+ screenings of Suicide Circle, Battle Royale, etc?

Those are classics. And amazing. I also have a collection of Asian horror/mystery movies that I picked up on a trip to Singapore.

I've actually heard Singapore live action movies are really interesting. If you could champion a few examples I can put them in my "okay these are a little out of the ordinary but they're unique and themey, so can we please play them" list.

Dead or Alive.

'Nuff said.

(Normally I'd suggest Ichi The Killer since it's a top of the line yakuza movie, but it's already been shown at AB in the past. :()

Some of the shows seem like they'd break the 'bootleg' rule of AB.

There is the TarTan Cinema company. They do Japanese and Korean films... mainly horror.

The number 1 bet would be Viz Films.

All in all, a Korean horror or Nana screening would be AMAZING!!!

Im seconding Kiarrens on the LA of Grave of the Fireflies. I heard it was a Miyazaki, so I watched it. Cried through the entire thing. Im not sure of I could sit through a LA of it, but it was SOOO GOOD!!! Definitely worth seeing.

I heard good things about Ichi the killer.....I would very much like to see it.

Also, its perfect for the theme this year.

I honestly like the crime/mystery genre in general and now that it is the theme this year I hope some good ones are played.

Well, I just finished watching "Antique" the movie, I thought it was really funny. It's based off of the Japanese manga Antique Bakery. The movie is in Korean though ^_^
