IMPORTANT! Attendance Cap at Anime Boston 2015

Post by Faceman »

For every year except one, more vendors, industry, panelists and, most importantly, attendees are excited to come to Anime Boston. To handle this growth, we moved from our humble beginnings at the Boston Park Plaza to our current home at the Hynes Convention Center and Sheraton Boston hotel.

This year is no exception. After reviewing our pre-registration numbers and after much discussion among the Anime Boston executive team, we've decided to cap our weekend-only memberships this year. We highly recommend pre-registering as we may reach the cap during at-con registration; we would hate to turn you away at the door because we're sold out.

This cap does not apply to the Sunday-only Membership sold at the convention.

To keep you informed, we will be sending out updates on how many available memberships are left on our webpage and via our social media channels on a daily basis. Please follow us on Twitter, Facebook or Tumblr for our latest updates.

Anime Boston 2015 is only 28 days away! We look forward to seeing you all soon.

I feel like I pulled an Indiana Jones and slid under the door before it closed.
Guess I'll get my other pre-reg done quickly, then.

Correct! There's only 2 types: Weekend Memberships (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) and Sunday Only Membership.

I applaud AB for doing this and being responsible in regarding safety concerns, with both the dance and now this. :)

Out of curiosity, just what is the cap? I can see that there is 16,135 memberships left, but how many weekend badges total are there going to be?

I would imagine the cap to be around 30,000 people. Couldn't find an exact number though.

This announcement comes as absolutely no surprise, but I didn't expect it quite this soon; I was figuring next year or 2017.

But now that it's done, the establishment of a cap makes me both happy and relieved. It's proof positive of NEAS's desire to keep AB both manageable and safe. Kudos also for making this announcement with plenty of time for word to spread. Well done!

And for all those who are able to come--bring it! :D

This is an incredibly smart move! There have been way too many conventions as of late that have been turning away and denying access to even their preregistered attendees at the door because of safety regulations and a lack of preparation/space. Giving everybody a heads-up ahead of time will at least help in preventing any sort of mishaps that could possibly occur. I too personally didn't expect this to come as soon as it did, but it's great to know. Out of curiosity, are people like Vendors, Guests, Press, etc. factored into this total number of memberships as well?

The number you see on the front page of memberships available is [A Number] - [Current Paid Weekend Memberships in the Database.] It does not factor in nonpaid attendees of AB (staff, vendors, etc.)

We do have a pretty good idea of how many staff, vendors, guests, etc will be at the convention well in advance. We factored in that number as a best guess so our total (paid and nonpaid) attendance will be safely below maximum capacity as defined by the authorities.
