Anime Boston

We're pleased to announce the theme for Anime Boston 2013 is Tales of Yōkai. We'll be exploring the exciting world of Japanese ghost stories, folklore, and mythology. Keep checking back throughout the year as we'll have lots of great content. Don't forget to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and keep up with the antics of our mascots A-chan and B-kun on Youtube!

Interesting, seeing how I was just playing a minigame on Playstation Home the other day with a few of those monsters in the game, and last night was playing a Kirby game with one of those umbrella monsters. Kind of fits the time.

Also, this theme seems like it could be pretty fun. I don't expect it at all, due to alot of setting up and people needed, but a late night haunted house-sort of deal would really be nifty for this kind of theme IMO.

This is going to be a fun theme. There's ton of references to youkai in Touhou, which I'm a big fan of. Can't wait!

I think this is absolutely fantastic!! I love Japanese horror/folklore/myths, and I was thrilled to read that this will be the theme for next year's con. So, we shall all be entering the Haunted Hynes when we go...XD

Okay...now we need a screening of Ghost Stories...and it has to be the English dub!

Also, a cosplay idea (waaayyyy out there!)...check out the end credits of Ghost Stories, and take a good look at the demon procession in the background. Talk about an opportunity for group cosplay!..

BTW, I think this is the best con theme to date!

So in love with this idea! Odd how the costumes I'd wanted to do when this one ended work well with next year's. Now I'm totally excited! Less than a year to get it all in gear guys!

This is a great theme, IMHO. Besides all the yokai in the Touhou universe, there are so many references to some sort of yokai in anime series as well as games of Japanese origins. This should be fun indeed.

We haven't settled on a theme for chess yet, once we do there will be an announcement. Rest assured, though, it WILL tie into the convention theme.

This is wonderful! I Love Yōkai in all their Macabre and Funny shapes and forms! I used to study them for a time. This gives me a good reason to bring the DaiYōkai of the West, Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru's Father (AKA Inu-Papa!) to the Con!

Next year is going to be a great year for Touhou. We'll have to find a way to do it bigger and better. It'll be hard to top this year's panel, but we have plenty of time to find a way to meet the challenge.

You're certainly welcome to cosplay from non-anime/Japanese series! There are no restrictions as to what you can cosplay at the convention, as long as it's appropriate for being in public.

Love to meet another Kouga! InuTaishou is not a new cosplay, I've worn it for Two years now. I haven't brought the Cosplay to AB in a while though because I need a large piece of luggage to stow all the armor in and the T is not very kind to people with large bags. (Especially the green line) But for this theme I definitely want to bring the cosplay with me.

I think good series to possibly use for reference is Mushishi. The spirits arn't embodied like Yokai and the spirits are called mushi, but is does have the same folklore type of background.

I find it amusing that even before Anime Boston 2012 was over, I was planning to do a cosplay of someone from the Saiyuki series for 2013, and this years theme involves Youkai/Demons!
