Welcome to the new Anime Boston forums.

Post by Faceman »

Greetings!!

We have completed the process of moving the Anime Boston forums from our old software (FusionBB) to PHPBB3. While we hope that most things are set, there will inevitably be a few wrinkles to iron out.

READ ME!! - First and foremost, every user must reset their password, as we weren't able to transfer passwords from the old system. To do so, go to this link:
ucp.php?mode=sendpassword .

You need to enter your login name from the old forums, and the email address associated with the account. Please note, that this is the same login you would have used on the old forum, even if you changed your display name. Once you do, you should receive an email with instructions on changing your password. If you do not receive an email after 10 minutes, please check your spam filter. If you still don't have it, try having it reset again.

If you continue having trouble resetting your password, please email forums@animeboston.com and we will assist you as soon as we are able to. Please keep in mind that we have other commitments (like sleep, and work), so it may be a few hours before we can respond.

A few things were lost in the forum transition:
-Avatar image
-Signature block
-Public profile info
-Modified display names
-Private Topics
-Polls
-Any attachments in posts
-Read posts (all are marked unread, but click Mark Forums Read at the bottom of the main page)

You can reset your avatar and signature under the User Control Panel. Also, please note that there was a change in how BB code is handled. So quote and image tags from the old system don't show properly. If you want to clean up an old post of yours, you'll have to edit it. Also, if you changed your display name in the old system from your account default, you'll have to change it again (see next paragraph).

Some new features for general users:
-Able to change your username without requiring Staff approval. Found under User Control Panel -> Profile -> Edit Account Settings.
-Able to edit your posts with no time limit.
-Able to delete your own posts.

These are new features, and we hope people don't abuse them. If they do, we'll reconsider allowing them. In short, don't ruin it for everyone else.

Over the course of the new few months, we'll continue fixing the forums and adding new features.

If you encounter and issues, have questions or concerns, please feel free to post below, or contact us in private at forums@animeboston.com .

Thank you.

So did we lose the forum titles? All I can see now is everyone's post count, but no more snazzy cool names.
Now how am I going to laugh at my friends when they reach the "likely a narutard" number? T.T

The old forum titles are gone. I haven't put in new ones yet.

There's currently an issue with persistent logins not holding. It's resulting in people having to log in again after closing the browser, even if they select to login automatically. I'm working on this to have a fix asap.

Yay, new forum titles are up! *looks above avatar and notices "show off"* aww...

Any chance we could see a chart of the post number and their corresponding title list? I remember seeing one a few years ago for the old forum.

FYI, we also have 2 other forum style options available, aside from the current default one. That's under your User Control Panel too.

Good, seems like most of the stuff I was hoping for the other boards was added. Sucks about the PMs, though, I knew and you fore-warned, but yeah. Just have to restart those up again.

For PMs, are these boards set up like PMs are emails? Or can they be used like in the old system like threads that only you and the specified other people are part of? (i.e. they only show up once in your inbox list and everyone that's part of the thread can see everyone else's responses) That was a great feature for planning things like panels, meet-ups, AMV betas, and the like.

Uh, I haven't messed around with them too much. But from my recollection, the PMs are able to include more than 2 parties on the discussion. You just have to add people to it when you're writing it.

the new forum looks great. i always thought that fusionbb was pretty hokey, and the conversion to phpbb was a huge improvement.

any plans to setup a quickreply box? i've seen those on invision and vbb, but i'm sure such a modification exists for phpbb as well.

Tests are showing it behaving like email. Each response is threaded at the bottom, but every reply takes up one of the 50 inbox slots, so you need to delete all but the current message and read everything in backwards order in a tiny box at the bottom of the screen to get any sort of threading effect. Guess we'll have to organize stuff elsewhere then - pity. :(

Is it possible to bring back the setup where you go to the most recent unread post in a thread just by clicking the title? I liked not having to scroll through all the old stuff.

When there's an unread post in the thread, there's a little arrow icon next to the thread title. Click on it, and it'll bring you to the first unread post in that thread.

Do we have to turn our staff access back on, or something? Like we had to do on the other forum with the little green icon next to our names?

Technically, unless you're exec council, you are not currently a staffer. We serve at the pleasure of our department heads, as the saying goes, and only after you've been accepted to staff 2012 will you have staff access.

Prove yourself, or don't get invited back! Staffing AB is not for the faint of heart, people! :D

I think Massachusetts passed a law that says I CAN'T be an attendee. If I'm not staff I'm required to run an anime event at the library that weekend. 8-)

Yeah, I'm in attendee status (for now, I guess) and I only just managed to get out the new digs for the forum. Which means I should probably get cracking on coming up with an appropriate avatar image and whip up a suitable signature...

Just want to point out to people who might not have found it yet, there are two other forum styles currently available.

To preview/change the forum styles, go to User Control Panel (at the top of the page) -> Board Preferences -> My Board Style.

Getaway Darkblue is the default style. But there's also Getaway, and Getaway Green. Each one has a different AB banner heading too.

Noticed something...

Announcement threads (like the website feedback thread) don't update the Last Post correctly. This results in the Last Post column of the interface showing the date and time of the first post, instead of the last one, and when you click the icon to the left of the thread title that's supposed to take you to the newest posts since last time you read the thread, it, instead, just redirects to the top. Occasionally this results in the thread being marked as not read either in the sub-forum display or the "this thread has unread posts" icon incorrectly comes up for the entire sub-forum.

tldr: The read post state isn't always updating on global announcements - most likely because the latest post flag isn't getting incremented as replies come in.

It might be a PHPBB bug.
