That thread.

You know that thread that I make every year, that becomes the only one everyone posts in up 'till the deadline, the thread where people get to regale us with their many tales of trial and sorrow, where they offer veiled glances at their works, teasing words for clue of chosen categories or master plan, the one where we collectively wait with baited breath, fingers twitching over F5 as the hours tick by and the deadline looms ever closer - the thread where my tortured grammatical structure gets me smacked across the head by our resident author friends...

This is that thread.

Proceed.

I have a Drama idea that I'm very slowly poking at. Source files are all converted to lossless (and sitting on a full terabyte of HD space), song is phrase-marked, but work and other commitments (and distractions) keep conspiring to keep me from actually sitting down and hammering parts out.

37 days to the deadline. I really need to get cracking this weekend.

Well, fine... I'll post then.

Started two separate videos, when I had only planned on doing one... Then I got a lot more overtime at work than I had expected, and have had to work on stuff for Sakuracon a lot for the past 2 weeks.

Hopefully both of these will come together. I've spent more time clipping and binning the sources than anything else, so far, so it's hard to tell what's taking shape.

Have started a video (against all odds), but the April 1 deadline was much earlier than what I was expecting, so I am several weeks behind at this point. I doubt I'll have something to submit that's really ready to go public by then, but I'm going to do the best I can. Unfortunately, I've got some serious back/neck/should/wrist problems, so marathon editing is just not something I can do. More than three hours at a time just kills me.

*goes back to editing*

I also misplaced my pen tablet pen yesterday, and now my index finger is KILLING me from all this mouse clicking.

Realistically, I built some leeway into the contest. I'm leaning towards extending the deadline to April 12th. The prescreening is set for the 13th, so that's cutting it awfully close. Would extending the deadline help people?

Very much yes.
(my effective deadline right now is 3/27 if you don't)

Yes PLEASE a couple more weekends would be wonderful, then I'd have a fighting chance at getting something decent into shape! I promise I am working very hard to pull my video together, but I'm a slow editor and tend to experiment a lot...and screw up a lot...

Those videos you feel your video can cross into two categories.... boy, I hate this.... No matter how much I try to aim for one category, I get it split off into two.

Alright, consider it extended.

I'll see about getting an official announcement up.

That's where I'm at. I've been staring at the video going back and forth between two categories. (the video I swore I didn't have time to make, mind you).

Yeah, it sucks. I am going to try to force it a bit more into the category I was aiming for. A bit of both isn't bad, but at the same time, considering both categories are kind of opposites, it "is".... I should have this one and an HMV done this year. Hope to get a second, since I have two or three other incomplete videos I can jump back on and getting going, but I am not holding my breath on either. One of them, I'd love to get done, just because of the song alone. I think it could speak to many people in the audience if it made the finals, but I don't see it happening. We will see.

I've got the same problem. I have 2 videos in the works, both of which are kind of Drama-Action-y. Ideally each of my submissions will be to separate categories so I'm still trying to figure out which one I want in each respective category. Once I get both done I'll probably ask a few people for opinions because this is bothering me, too. Category lines are always shaky at best.

Thank you so much for the extension, this is now possibly possible...still not guaranteed, but a bit of tension just left my shoulders, as they say.

Also, two things
• Typo here: The AMV Contest deadline has been extended to April 12, 2013. More information on the convest contest can be found on the AMV Contest page.
• On the "Upcoming Schedule" sidebar it still lists the deadline as April 1, which freaked me out for a second.

Finally made it to the spot where I'd say I was comfortable with my remaining time... if today were a week ago.

*panic mode level 2 begins*

All entirely my fault, though. The time I've spent actively avoiding editing to actually doing it is about 8:1 at this point.

So am I the only one that was so focused on finishing my AMV that I totally missed that there was a deadline extension and ended up finishing mine today?

Maybe I use the extra time to work on a second AMV? (probably not gonna happen)

Weird things keep popping up to interfere with my editing plans. Not-so-weird is that my video wasn't turning out like I wanted it to, so I gave up. Then I watched it again today and decided it wasn't a total piece of rubbish, but now I have other obligations on my time, and don't have the luxury of blitzing through this.*sigh*

Also, I can't seem to export a working MP4 file. Yay.

And I've just submitted both my entries. Luckily I've been so busy that I haven't even had time to be anxious about the contest. And if my weekend is as crazy as I anticipate, hopefully I won't devote too much time to worrying then, either.

Good luck everyone!

Even though I know the screening is today and the results won't be sent for another two or so days, I am still anxious as all hell and constantlyl watching the forums. Curious about video numbers.

As a fun guessing game, I will guess the order of submission number from highest to lowest is:

Action
Drama
Romance
Other
Comedy
Fun/Upbeat

C-F/U can probably go either way, as can D-A, but yeah, random guess for the fun of it.

Unless a bunch of people made comedies just for AB, I'm going to guess it's probably last.

I just got done judging Sakuracon's contest a few weeks back (it's a contest that's about on-par with AB for entries every year) and there were only 6 total entries there for comedy... and I know half of them either weren't submitted to AB or would be DQ'd if they were.

Comedy is one of those categories that never seems to get enough videos. Our "Fun" entry this year was originally conceptualized as a comedy, but it just didn't turn out that way.

For total video number? Hmm.... this should be another trophy given out. :P

Either way, I am going to say.... 164.

I kind of guess honestly it will be significantly lower though.
