About Editors choice voting

Post by Sayoria »

How does one actually take part in this, and what are the qualifications?

- Do you need to be somewhere at some time specifically?
- Do you need to be a FINALIST to vote, or can you just be an entry?

I mean, I have been taking part in the contest since 2006, and this is something I have never really figured out, nor have I ever looked into. I am really curious about it though.

Short answer, yes to both questions.

As with past years, the Editor's Choice voting was held immediately following the second showing on Saturday morning.

All finalists in attendance at the con are eligible to vote.

Ah. Alright. Might look into checking that out next year then if the schedule plays in favor. How exactly does this voting go? Is it a blind ballot like the audience voting? Is it an agreed vote?

It's multi-round ballot voting. The exact rules aren't set in stone, but it was ran very similarly each tine.

Rd 1: vote for your X favorite, top Y advance.
Discuss the ones that are left as a group.
Rd 2: vote for your Z favorite of the remaining Y, top wins.
Tie breaker if needed.

This year X=3, Y=5, Z=2

its awesome that all the finalists are professional enough that this works. with awards on the line i would be worried that everyone would just vote for themselves, but in the 3 years i've been to ab it is quite obvious that the amv finalists crowd is really taking this vote seriously and picking the best videos. props to everyone who has been involved in the voting process over the years!

That sounds pretty cool actually. So sort of like a mini bracket, like:

AMV 1 (2 Votes)
AMV 2 (9 Votes)
AMV 3 (3 Votes)
AMV 4 (12 Votes)
AMV 5 (7 Votes)
AMV 6 (5 Votes)

Then if there were to be three finalists, I assume the remainders would be AMV 2, 4, and 5, and with those left over, final voting goes into place, correct? Sounds like that works well enough. I will have to check this out next year. Thank you for the insight.

And yeah, it's great the editors vote for what they believe are the better ones, excluding their own. As a person myself who really loves alot of the AMVs I see each year, and play my votes on the ballot pretty fairly, I would like to take part in this next year.

I've never known about when this happens...I always assumed it was some top secret meeting or something, since it's never really announced in the schedule.

Maybe I will stop by next year.

According to Adam, all of the details for preferred seating and editors choice voting are included in the "congrats, you are a finalist" email, as only the finalists are able to vote.

Ah, I checked back and I guess it does say that. I didn't look much beyond the email subject line when I first got it.

I was always curious to how this was done, since I haven't been able to attend thus far. Good to know.
