Wow, an actual academic scholarly panel on waifuism? For the past few months I have been doing research on this topic and have been tempted to try and run a panel on this myself, but my good friend Charles Dunbar has been trying to talk me out of it. Of course according to Charles Dunbar I am the only person he knows of who takes the waifu thing seriously and yes I will hurt anyone who brings dishonor to my waifu!

Needless to say I REALLY want to see this presentation, but with running as of now four panels of my own during AB I'm worried about a scheduling conflict. If one comes up consider this an invite to track me down because I would love to sit down for a bit and talk waifu research with you guys.

I love going to Charles's panels(my friend really loved the one you and him did a few years ago on youkai). I hope that he has panels at AB too(Your Italian one sounds fascinating. I hope that the Zeppeli family makes their proper appearance there). But yeah, an scholarly panel on waifus is certainly up my alley.

*insert angry range as I toss things about my room*

The full convention schedule just came out today and my last and perhaps most important panel this year at AB ends at 9:30 pm on Saturday, 15 minuets after this panel starts! It's a Kaiju conspiracy I tell you! This is the ONE panel that I really wanted to attend and see outside of the things I am running this year. It's not fair!

Oh man, Haru! Really sorry to hear that. Here's what I will say though that will be the next best thing; we will be recording the panel this year and will be posting it to the Wicked Anime YouTube channel, as well as the site that hosts our show. You can certainly keep an eye out for that! Then, if you would like to discuss any points with us, our show's email address is not hard to find from the Nerdy Show Website, podcast or the Wicked Anime Facebook page. Feel free to email us anytime! (You can also PM me or Jonathan here on the forums for that info)

As an additive, this will not be the only year we plan on doing this panel, we have many years to come! Who knows, maybe schedules will move around and you will still get your chance. Either way, if you see us at the con, feel free to say hi!

Well I do plan to race down and try to sneak in once I'm done and catch the end of your presentation. As I mentioned before according to my good friend Charles Dunbar (who will not be at Anime Boston this year) I am the only person he really knows who takes the waifu thing seriously. Yes I have a waifu, I don't make a huge constant fuss about it and rub it in everyone's face, but she does live on my iPad and goes to every convention with me, so if I make it to the panel she will be in attendance with me. I'm not sure what kind of audience feedback or input you guys would be looking for but I thought it would be interesting to have at least one person there who does not view this topic as a joke. I will take another look at my schedule and see if I can make one of your other panels. I would like to meet up with you guys and chat at some point during the weekend.

Sounds good. Our other panel for the weekend is actually 45 mins before this one from 7:00pm (Including ID check for 18+) to 8:30pm... which may also run through your other panel unfortunately.

We will in fact be asking for audience participation at some point in the show, checking in with opinions on certain subjects, etc. But the main goal of the presentation will be explaining what causes people to think about the idea of waifus/husbandos, what techniques are used in art and could it actually done on purpose, ect. This is all done through research we did on the brain as well as personal experience from working in the art and animation industry. Should be a fun time with some interesting discussion and an entertaining presentation!

Seriously everyone, thank you so much for attending! We had no idea how big this could have possibly been until we saw it for ourselves! For those who missed out, we will be uploading a video of the panel in the near future and of course be running it again in the future!

On a final note, does anyone have any pictures or video of the mob crowded outside of the room? I have only heard stories, but I guess it was something to behold.

I was there. I didn't get any pictures or videos, but there were two very loud individuals that were getting the staff very angry, causing them to disperse the line. Then a third guy, who may have been drunk or high or something, was getting very upset at one of the staff, saying that his "wife" was in the room. Some of the people around him chuckled at this, but the poor security woman was exasperated, she said she'd been up since 4 am, and didn't get the joke. She asked this guy what his wife's name was, he hesitated for a second, then flung his arms above his head and said "RYUUKO!" Everyone was beside themselves when the woman agreed to let him in the panel, and stand next to his "wife." I can only imagine what happened inside the room, but it wasn't a minute later when she came back out, dragging him along, telling him to get lost.

Incidentally, I recall seeing this same individual storming out of the "Wanna Be the Strongest in the World" dub premiere, shouting something along the lines of "This F'ING SUCKS!". Seriously dude, calm down, you were probably making some people feel unsafe.

I was watching the premiere of "Wanna Be the Strongest in the World" (note: there was some confusion at least for me where the line had ended. I guess I had initally joined a line for the Hentai Extraganza but an orange-shirt had dispersed that line. After moving from where I was, and inquiring from some other orange shirt, I was able to be in line for it. Glad that I was able to watch the premiere on time). Yeah, there was a guy who was yelling "this f'ing sucks". I thought almost nothing of it at the time, since well, that show is a guility pleasure of mine. Incidently, "Elisabeth Lewis"(I kinda have an idea of who is behind that alias) played Sakura quite well and Monica Rial played Elena well too.

Yeah, that guy made it into the room... and right on camera... and being dragged out. It was pretty funny and I make mention to him right after and we all have a good laugh about it! I'm working on putting the panel video together for everyone who missed out and you get to hear some of the line/mob right outside for some of it. We'll also be running this panel next year as well with all the appropriate updates and what-have-you. Hope to see you next year!
