Musical Guest Suggestions for Anime Boston 2018

This thread is for Musical Guest Suggestions Only.
To request a Non-Musical, Non-Japanese Guest, please go to this thread.
To request a Non-Musical, Japanese Guest, please go to this thread.

If you have someone you'd like to see as a Musical Guest at Anime Boston 2018, please use this thread to make your suggestion.

Here's some guidelines to keep in mind:

When suggesting a musical guest, please give us their name and not just what they've worked on. Linking to their Wikipedia, Anime News Network, or Facebook page is a big help as are samples of their work on Youtube or Vimeo.

Keep in mind that even though someone may make a great musical guest, there are a number of factors that go into the Guest of Honor selection process including - but not limited to - availability, scheduling conflicts, travel expenses, and logistics.

This is a suggestion thread, not a nomination or voting process; posts seconding and agreeing with suggestions may be removed to keep the thread focused on the suggestions themselves.

No matter how enthusiastic you are, do not ask someone if they'd be interested in attending Anime Boston as a Guest. Sometimes when a potential guest is contacted by fans about attending Anime Boston it can be misinterpreted it as an official invitation from the convention itself. This can lead to confusion, mixed signals, and disappointment for everyone. These situations can actually backfire and hurt the convention's chances to have a guest attend.

Thank you.

I have a couple of musical guest suggestions for you. :) :) I saw both these groups perform at Anime Festival Orlando back in June, and they are both LOTS of fun to see.

First up is Geekapella, they are a nerdy a capella group. Here are links to their website, FaceBook, and Twitter pages:

http://www.geekapella.com/

https://www.facebook.com/geekapella/

https://twitter.com/geekapella?lang=en

One thing they did during their performance that was REALLY cool was, after learning of Adam West's passing, they sang a song in his memory. It's on their FB Page.

The other one is Noise Complaint. They are a cosplay tap dance group. Here are links to their website, FaceBook, & Tumblr pages:

http://www.noisecomplaintlive.com/

https://www.facebook.com/noisecomplaintlive/

http://noisecomplaintlive.tumblr.com/

In fact, when I saw Noise Complaint, at one point I, along with several other people in the audience, got brought up to join in and dance with them during Taylor Swift's song "Shake It Off". SO much fun!!

Would love to see Nami Tamaki again, been over 10 years since she last came to the US but I believe she's still active. Sang opening songs for Gundam SEED and D.Gray Man and is just all around awesome.

I would love to see Nana Mizuki maybe bring some interests to the dark horse of anime Senki Zesshou Symphogear which I'm sad is so underrated in the west. She has a amazing cast of characters she's been over the years including but not limited to the animes Dog Days, Fullmetal Alchemist, Ichigo 100%, Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha, and Senki Zesshou Symphogear.

I recently went to Japan and saw the Sony music concert, biggest rock group was flow and the biggest idol group was TrySail, either one of those would get a good crowd

I'd like to suggest Oldcodex!

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oldcodex

And I'm still hoping Younha will be considered! She's active in both the South Korean and Japanese markets and her songs have been used in anime, like Houkiboushi in Bleach.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Younha

EDIT: Adding Sekai no Owari to my suggestions because I just discovered them! Loving their single "Anti-Hero"!

Hi! Some of the suggestions I liked above weren't linked with samples, so I hope this post won't be removed since I am supplying the missing links to the suggestions.

The dream: ANISONG WORLD MATSURI at AB
It's been done at Anime Expo 2016 http://www.anime-expo.org/anisong-world ... expo-2016/
and returning at AX 2017. http://www.anime-expo.org/anisong-world ... expo-2017/
Also happening at Otacon 2017 https://www.otakon.com/concerts/anisong/

If Matsuri is not possible, some suggestions are ordered and ranked by my bias first, then perceived popularity.
1. Kalafina - FIRST TOP PICK. PERIOD. Famous for being amazing live. Really unique sound, formed by Yuki Kaijura. Really atmospheric group that makes songs like the last boss battle is approaching or songs that make you cry because its so beautiful. People say it's a life experience attending a live. I think also they would be great, because a lot of people who attend AB might not be fluent in Japanese, but Kalafina has a sound that can just be universally FELT without even understanding the words.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kalafina
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1bXu0XZDlU- To the Beginning from Fate/Stay
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRHvd7sVEVU - Magisa - from Madoka. Lol at how epic/theatrical their entrance is to the concert.

2. Aimer would be amazing!!!!!!!! I think a lot of people would attend even to just attend the concert. Aimer has strong, moving, poignant, and emotional vocals with epic sound. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aimer
She is a little notoriously worse live than on CD (compared to LiSA and Kalafina who are both famous for rocking live) but I think she would still be a great guest. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aimer
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijzVtaorzZU - Brave Shine - Fate/Stay
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qAbzg4JSwM4 - Last Stardust - Unlimited Blade Works
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4iQlHqqNvfE - ninelie - Kanbaneri
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DrTYbXBbIk - Stars in the rain

3. Can Lisa come back? lol. I would love to hear Kataomoi and her newer songs live.

4. Asian Kungfu Generation - So epic. Another crowd pleaser. Known for AWESOME lives. Known for FMA, Naruto,

4. L'Arc~en~Ciel - Another group that's AMAZING at creating a performance. Honestly on my bucketlist to hear them sing live one day. Taps in to the huge FMA fanbase, so would be insanely popular. I also bet people would come to AB even just for the concert. Epic jrock bank. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L%27Arc-en-Ciel
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxGKK4gHOKY - Ready Steady Go - FMA
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vh_AoHn ... tJaGgWzXyA - Link - FMA

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvrqrDvH7Cw Shinzou wo sasageyo - Shingeki no Kyojin

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uverworld
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyzBQ-z1SG8 - D technolife - Bleach, honestly just hearing this song would be worth it personally and I don't even watch Bleach.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1LQSxh9kumo - CHANCE! - Bleach
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D53mmvsNXXA- Gekidou -DGM

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yuki_Kajiura
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nt6C5GBt9-o SAO OST

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5rIpOmuD7U - Simple and Clean

12. Orange Range - Also very popular, Bleach which also finally ended recently, so for nostalgia sake, it would be popular. Code Geass R3 will have been out by then so there's that fanbase too.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orange_Range

1. Kenshi Yonezu (or Hachi if you're going by Vocaloid fans) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenshi_Yonezu
2. Kalafina https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kalafina
3. DAOKO https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daoko (hey, apparently she was with Teddyloid at AWA!)

I would have suggested REOL (a band combining utaite Reol, Giga-P and Okiku), but they broke up recently. Wouldn't mind either Reol or Giga-P coming separately, however. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/REOL_(group)

Good lists. All good lists.

I think we should look into Anisong World Matsuri, and keep them in mind. I just saw them at Otakon and was
quite impressed. Here are my otherwise suggestions:

My first pick would also be TM Revolution
Nami Tamaki
Gacharic Spin
If we're ready for vocaloids, Marcross Delta
Uverworld
Genki Rockets
Nana Kitade

I think we wanna aim for an atmosphere within our Space Theme, so that's my list.

I've also heard of Kishida Kyoudan and the Akeboshi Rockets. They did the openings to GATE and Highschool of the Dead.

Then there's DOLL$BOXX. https://twitter.com/dolls_boxx/status/8 ... 6180599808

They've been pushing to come to the US for a while now.

Konomi Suzuki would be the perfect musical guest. She has about 20 songs that have been used for either openings or endings of different shows. She also has voiced a character. https://myanimelist.net/people/15607/Konomi_Suzuki

Please PLEASE invite AmaLee, she's an incredibly talented YouTube anime musician, she translates TONS of songs and then sing them herself. She's very popular and she never gets invited up to our coast, this would be an awesome opportunity to have her come our way!

Would you guys please be able to get the Love Live band Aqours to come? They went to Anime Expo with the Anisong Matsuri performance, which has been going around the convention for a while this year. You guys had the Love Live Event at AB in 2016 so I hope there's at least a good chance for Aqours! It would mean so much to so many people!

would love if possible to have a vocaloid concert at AB! they've done this at AnimeNEXT last year (which sadly i didn't get to go to due to one of my panels being scheduled against it....) and other cons as well. i think it's a great additional musical event along with a more traditional musical guest.

as far as possible guest suggestions, with My Hero Academia being a big deal in japan right now (and i guess a pretty big deal here too? i don't keep with US anime fandom that well these days, haha) it would be really cool to land an artist who did an opening or ending for them, but especially amazarashi (current opening) or Kenshi Yonezu (2nd opening).

other, not necessarily anime related suggestions:
BiSH (the biggest of the "underground" idol groups imo, i'm sure a lot of people would love this)
BiS or Gang Parade (if you couldn't get BiSH these are related but smaller acts that would still be cool!)
Kishidan (this would probably be a really hard get but they're an iconic, mainstream J-rock band)
sakanaction (more indie but they've blown up in the last few years; really cool mix of J-rock & electronic music that i think attendees would love even if they're not familiar with them already)
SuiseiNoboAZ (the most indie band i've listed here but one that does have a following in the US)

i can come up with more suggestions too but figured that was enough for now. any of these artists would be amazing at AB!

Hello,

Wanting to suggest for the convention to be more open up to Idol artist since this is a huge, huge culture and Japan and that is rapidly crossing border and getting many international people interested.

Thus I will suggest the following:

First Hello Project Idol Groups which are big in Japan and around the world. In the past I have attended many event of them here in the US. They are a company that are willing to came with a single invitation from a convention. In Fact, one of their group JUICE=JUICE is currently doing a World tour and has gone to Mexico, London,Germany, France with upcoming dates for Brazil, Peru and Chile. They have stated that they want to come to the US but they are waiting on an invitation from an organized group/ convention. They are great and give an amazing show! Since it seems they will be open to collaborate in all the process I highly suggest them.

Here is their company website:
http://www.up-front-works.jp

Morning Musume is their flag group, which is internationally recognize as far as Idol groups.

I will believe they will be happy to send any of their groups which are of great quality.

Second I will suggest more underground Idol Groups like:

Bish and Bis -- http://www.bish.tokyo
GEM and Wasuta -- http://idolstreet.jp/index.php
Task Have Fun -- http://taskhavefun.net
Scandal -- Big pop rock group -- http://www.scandal-4.com
Up Up Girls -- http://www.upupgirlskakkokari.com

And theres even a lot more but those are the big ones that come to my mind.

Finally, I will suggest Stardust Idol Groups which are to my experience the most popular current groups in Japan so I will not be sure on how easy will be to bring them.

They are
Momoiro Clover Z
Ebichu
Team Syachihoko
Batten Show Jotai
etc

Their concerts are characterized by lots and lots of energy and very good production.

Here is the link to their company: http://www.stardust.co.jp

Anyways hope this helps and think that will helpful for you as I know there is quite a large Idol fan population in the US willing to travel wherever these groups go.

Thanks

I would like to suggest any 2.5 D musical as musical guest.
e.g.: Touken Danshi from Musical Touken Ranbu
B-project from B-project over the wave
Six Gravity and procellarum from Tsuki Uta the stage
Team Otori and Hiragi from Star Myu
And ensemble stars from emsemble stars the stage

https://www.j25musical.jp/en/

What is the 2.5-Dimensional Musical?
The term is used to describe theatrical presentations based on Japanese manga, popular animation and video games
The meaning implies such theatrical shows exist somewhere between 2D the realm of manga, animation and video games,
and 3D the realm of the theater. The term not only refers to musicals, but also to straight plays, comedies and dramas.

I think this is actually a good idea. I'm surprised that it didn't cross my mind. I know that Anime On Stage has been in the Dealer's Room for two years, which would indicate that they've noticed some interest among AB attendees. And if memory serves, they are affiliated with and have been selling merchandise from the linked company (https://www.j25musical.jp/en/) specifically.

Hiromitsu Agatsuma, a shamisen player (wikipedia, youtube)

Would be more of an intimate concert feeling than many of the pop acts others have suggested.

Would bands relating to Kpop be okay to suggest? Because if so, I recommend BTS(Bangtan Boys or Bulletproof Boyscouts) they do a lot of their songs in Japanese and have a few English covers as well. Plus, they write all of their own songs and are strong on the anti-bullying scene.

Here's a song or two:

DNA (Japanese version): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-JyUgixHBU
Run(Japanese version): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a16gTN7kOWU
Fire(Japanese version): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfElcIdNjWQ

Their official twitter: https://twitter.com/bts_twt

They're also into anime, so I could see them wondering around and enjoying the convention. c':

I also recommend FLOW, like a lot of others here! They've done so many anime openings.

Naruto's GO opening: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AE4b9jO1uB4
Colors (Code Geass): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8CFuZ9MseQ

Their official twitter:

Also, I'd love, LOVE to see a vocaloid concert!
