Bag/Prop Ok?

Post by witchboyofboston » Sat Mar 04, 2017 7:42 pm

So I couldn't figure out if I should've posted this somewhere else:

I would like to bring a guitar case (haven't decided if hard of soft case) as part of my cosplay of Eikichi from Persona 2. It will be empty, except for if I need to store something I purchase from the dealer's room or artists' alley. I want to make sure that it will be ok to bring as it may be bigger than the average backpack or purse. Additionally, I don't know if that'll be allowed as I am not a musical guest.

Any insight would be appreciated! Thank you

(Obligatory "props can't be preapproved" goes here)

I would think, in addition to being bulky in tight areas, it might be uncomfortable to carry around. I would also be concerned what would happen if you weren't allowed to bring it and you had to take it back to your room. Could you make a replica somehow, or would you be recognizable without? My rule is always "when in doubt, don't". It kind of sucks as a rule but leads to less heartbreak.

There are no specific rules about size or shape of bags carried on your person. You will need to get it checked every time you re-enter the convention center though.

I would recommend going with the soft case over the hard one if you can though, as a hard case might fall under the weapons category, specifically the question of "If I hit someone with it, which will break: the prop or the person?"

I am aware that they cannot be preapproved but wanted to put feelers out on which is more apt to be acceptable/if it'd just be a waste of time/if it matters that I'm not a musical guest. After both your inputs, I will likely go with the soft case. Although hard cases aren't that hard (especially when empty) and the character has a hard one, it would likely fall under the bag category this way.

Thanks!
