Post by PyroGodFlameCosplay »

Im bringing this sword to the con :

The blade is wood and fake and im carring in a long red bag.. I will probably only take it out for pictures and nothing else.So it will probably be in the bag most of the time.

According to the Props Policy on the website, "Anime Boston Security cannot approve a prop prior to the convention". Sorry!

Again, no weapons/props can be approved before the convention. It will have to be inspected at the convention. Sorry.

If the blade is wood, there's a good chance it may not be approved. From the Anime Boston Props Policy the following items are prohibited:
Weapons, including:
Practice swords including bokens and kendo bamboo practice swords.
Any other potentially harmful weapon, prop, or item as determined by Anime Boston Security.
Your best test to get through approval is this: if you were to hit your grandmother with your prop, which would break first? If the answer is your prop, you are in good shape. Even if you only intend to take it out for pictures, because of the nature of the event, we have to assume that you're gonna want to hit someone with it. While you, personally, may be careful, everyone would not be and so we have to hold everyone to the same set of standards.

ITS NOT A pratice sword or kendo sword or bokken AND Im NOT gonna hit people with it XD. ITs a RULER THIN wooden sword blade.

http://i33.tinypic.com/xbbn2x.jpg

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN the thickness of my blade and a practice sword/boken/kendo sword
BOKEN: http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs43/i/2009/ ... Revell.jpg
KENDO SWORD: http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs6/i/2005/0 ... rrlogi.jpg

MY sword:

and ill will most likely will have it in this bag most of the time so, it wont be likely that it would hit someone like your stating:
bag i will carry sword in: http://i34.tinypic.com/256tk4m.jpg

if you guys wanna piece bond it closed at the con im cool with that too. And i think my sword blade would defiantly break if i hit someone with it in the head so, i dont fancy doing that with it. sorry for the caps by the way im not yelling im just highlighting the key words so sorry. i hope this doesnt sound rude i just wanted to say it wasnt any of those listed swords. :( let know if its ok so, im now what im doing con day :(

If you want HIGHLIGHT your words, try highlighting your words, or italicizing, it comes off as much less offensive and irritating.

Although we can not pre-approve your sword, you are left with many options, such as:

1. You may bring it, and if it is not approved then we will gladly hang on to it.
2. Put a substitute sword in your bag, such as any other harmless structure that imitates the shape of a sword, and leave it in the bag.
3. Do not bring it at all.
4. Change your cosplay.

And trust us, we know what Boken, Shinai, and other assorted weapons look like.

1. that would irritate and make him reallllly paraniod me so, i would not give it to you guys.
2. thats seems pointless because , i spent money on this sword so, i wanna use it
3 ^ same as above
4: i dont have time to start another one and ive been working so hard to get other pieces of my rin cosplay done.

The point of Peacebonding is not to render potentially dangerous items inert. It is to say "this item has been inspected and is not an actual weapon and poses no danger to anyone".

If it was bonded shut, what's to prevent you, or anyone else, from simply undoing it with a pair of scissors? And yes, I can understand that you wouldn't do that and wouldn't hurt anyone with it. But you need to look at it from our point of view. We have over 20,000 attendees. We have to adopt a policy that applies to all of them equally. We can't make exceptions for anyone. As such, we have to plan as broadly as we can.

I'm sorry of the Prop Policy conflicts with your cosplay plans. As Seriyu posted above, there are several alternatives that can be worked out. But in the end, this is the Policy we have worked out with the MCCA and Mayor's office. It isn't up for debate.

Hmm, you can do what I did last year. I went as Black rock shooter, and she has a black sword. What i did was that I removed the blade and used hot glue to glue the handle to the sword case, and thus turned it into an useless stick.
Pro: it's safe, it still look cool, it got approved.
Con: the hot glue might wear off if you wiggle the prop too much. Then you have to come to the prop repair room to duct tape it. ANd you dont get to show off the blade.

So does it worth bringing it to the con just to get it rejected? I think it's better to just remove the blade and glue it to the sword cover.
Or you should just replace wooden blade with spray painted cardboard :(
