Re: Formal Ball
I don't think so! There are a lot of other people in your same shoes! What matters is if you are the kind of person who can comfortably talk to people you don't know / ask them to dance. If you're a super shy person or someone who gets uncomfortable around quite a few people, it may not be for you!
I think it's really fun and enjoyed going, personally. (:
As far as what it's like, it's a small orchestral group playing ballroom dance styled music while a bunch of us amatures attempt to dance like we know what we're doing! Hahahahaha. They have lessons early in the day as well, which is a great way to meet people going with less pressure.

Re: Formal Ball
The formal ball is a fun event. Going alone is not a problem.
All you need to know is the basics of each dance; there is a lesson in the afternoon before the Ball.
Once you have that, you can ask anyone for a a dance. Just leave any shyness and wallpaperness behind.

Re: Formal Ball
And if you really feel shy asking strangers, you can always ask the dance hosts to dance. They know what they're doing, and won't turn you down the first time you ask.

Re: Formal Ball
The formal ball is Friday evening. A non-formal dance will follow it, which might be better for you if you can't handle the strict dress code.
