Thanks for that. This thread will specifically talk about the weather for AB2016 since each year, it is always different.

Anyway, I do have some concerns as AB2016 will be earlier this year as well as a recent prediction stating the Boston area may get more snow than last year. We will just have to wait and see. In the meantime, I will be looking at data around that time and posting it on here.

Let's get this started, shall we. Late-March, which this year's Anime Boston will be, can be, like any other weather in Spring here in Boston, unpredictable. I know we have said that a lot but to be honest, it is quite true. Late-March's average temperature goes from the low-30's to the high-40's and precipitation can be literally anything, from snow to rain. We have been quite lucky though at past cons. I have looked at the past data for Anime Boston that range from mid-March through mid-April and found 6 within that time frame, 2004 (April 9-11), 2008 (March 21-23), 2010 (April 2-4), 2012 (April 6-8), 2014 (March 21-23), and 2015 (April 3-5). Of all these, the lowest temperature occurred on March 23, 2014 with a low of 22F while the highest occurred on April 4, 2010 with a high of 77F. The only con that had some sort of precip was last year (2015) in the form of rain. As for wind, every single day had some sort of wind, ranging from 8mph to 24mph with gust up to 30mph.

Is this a guarantee that we will be lucky again this year? To be honest, we can't be sure. After all, we are still looking at months and we will know more in February. However, looking at past data, it does look good.

Then again, we are in a very strong El Nino this year and there has only been one con in the data I looked at that has been in an El Nino, 2010, where temps ranged from 41F to 77F. We will just have to wait and see.

We've had the warmest Christmas this 2015 in MA. And then it snowed a week after not a while ago I think. Do you think the temperature will rise earlier for March? Or have we just begun settling into the colder temperatures for these next few months?

Actually, the warmest Christmas for Boston happened in 1889 with 65F. Last year, Christmas was around 59F while this year, it was 62F. Many believe that yes, it will start getting cold soon (before February) but they do not think (including myself) there will be as much snow as last year. That is actually good for us. Anyway, I personally think it will be seasonable but on the warm side, maybe 50s but it is still too early to tell any of that.

Anime Boston no doubt has been very lucky in terms of the weather being decent pretty much every year since I first started going to this con in 2006. There really hasn't been a time where I can remember the weather being terrible, aside from the typical rain storm or a chilly day in terms of temperature.

That being said, there will always be a first for everything. I just hope that this year's Anime Boston doesn't have a March snow storm. :P

Being snowed in at a anime con might not be so bad

It might be for me. I commute in and out all three days of the con, plus I have a concert at the Orpheum on the night of the 26th. I can't afford to have snow get in the way then.

But hopefully, by that time, it will be clear enough that no one will have to worry.

Definitely not as bad compared to last year though. Last year was INSANE for February. Makes me wonder how much we actually have left in store for us this Winter.

Just a fun fact, February is Boston's snowiest month and even though we do not have the same amount of snow, we have been getting storm after storm like last year. There is still some time left this winter for some major storms but time will tell on that.

Long term projected forecast has the weekend of AB 48 on Thursday, as 45 and rainy on Friday, 51 on Sat and 52 on Sunday.

Of course, this is New England and the forecast changes daily so take it at a grain of salt, but the trend past this weekend is 30s, mostly 40s and some 50 days so these temperatures seem to follow with that.
I personally wouldn't mind this being the forecast and would love for it to be a little warmer, but overall this seems decent so far.

Personally speaking, anything over 3 day should be taken with a grain of salt. That is my opinion anyway. Also will mention latest models are saying we may be getting wintry weather (snow/ice) until mid-March. Things can always change though.

One last thing, looks like we have another weather person on here. More inputs are always welcome. I will be releasing my prediction for AB2016 either next week or the first week of March (always do a prediction about a month before the con).

We are now on the home stretch and we have a better understanding on what to expect for this year's Anime Boston. First and foremost, this "prediction" is just what I think will be the weather for Anime Boston. Anyway, let's gets started, shall we.

Temperature - I personally do not believe we will be cold this year. In fact, I think mid 40s to mid 50s sounds reasonable. I also would not be surprised if we get close to 70's around the time of the convention. It is also reasonable to say night time temperatures will be mid 30's to mid 40's.

Precipitation - Well, this one is harder to predict. Personally though, I do not think we will be getting any snow. However, rain and maybe hail seems likely but how much rain, I am not sure. The past few storms have actually been quite powerful with strong winds. It is a possibility that we can get those types of storms in late March.

I hope everyone enjoys the nice weather we're having recently. It does look like it'll be around the 50s by the weekend of the convention. I'll take that against 30s or 40s. Do you think it might change since it's so far from now?

Persoanlly think 50's is reasonable with 30's/40's for the night. There is still plenty of time for changes though.

I am going to be so bummed if it rains again this year..I'm staying at the Midtown, as I was in 2013 when we had virtually nothing but rain, wind and cold that entire weekend and it was not fun walking back and forth in that.

The current weather guesses for the upcoming weekend from weather.gov have it as a seasonally normal and mostly pleasant weekend. Of course, this is Boston so the forecast this many days out doesn't mean a lot.

Friday Partly sunny, with a high near 49.
Friday Night Partly cloudy, with a low around 31.
Saturday Sunny, with a high near 47.
Saturday Night Partly cloudy, with a low around 36.
Sunday A chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 50. Chance of precipitation is 50%

Edited to say that this is the weather for the currently upcoming weekend, which isn't even the weekend of Anime Boston. We know even less about the weather during AB, which could turn out to be anything from a blizzard to an 80 degree day.

NOAA doesn't offer forecasts that far out, but weather.com does. Their current guess is for highs in the mid 50s and lows just over 40 all three days, with Friday and Saturday being rainy. But that means about as much as the forecast in the Farmer's Almanac does. I'll try to remember to post here next Wednesday, at which point it will be enough better than random chance to be worth something.

Rule number 1 in weather is anything over 5 days out - take into consideration but don't take it seriously. 3-5 days - start considering it as reality, 1-3 days - most likely, although not guaranteed.

Nonetheless though, many local mets are starting to see a colder trend and although it is still too early to tell, there may be a chance of snow by this Sunday. Remember rule 1 though.

Update: Currently looking at our next storm. With less than 4 days away, it is still uncertain whether it will hit or miss. If hit, we are looking at inches, maybe a foot but not likely. However, also looking further ahead as, gasp, there are 2 storms being modeled for the next 2 weeks. Even though it is still way too far ahead, could this be the first time Anime Boston will get snow? I and every other met out there is keeping a close eye on things.

You actually have no idea how common that is for Boston, where a storm will split and go both north and south of Boston without even touching the city.

Anyway, here is the Wednesday update:

Current Forecast
Intellicast/WUnderground Network
Thursday: Chance of Rain; High: 43; Low: 40
Friday : Rain; High: 61; Low: 37
Saturday: Partly Cloudy; High: 45; Low: 36
Sunday: Partly Cloudy; High: 54; Low: 41

Friday : Thunderstorm; High: 61; Low: 38
Saturday: Partly Cloudy; High: 48; Low: 36
Sunday: Partly Cloudy; High: 56; Low: 43

WHDH (Ch 7)
Thursday: Drizzle; High: 40; Low: 37
Friday : Morning Showers; High: 60; Low: 40
Saturday: Partly Cloudy; High: 51; Low: 32
Sunday: Partly Cloudy; High: 60; Low: 36

WFXT (Ch 25)
Thursday: PM Showers; High: 45; Low: 35
Friday : AM Rain; High: 58; Low: 40
Saturday: Sunny; High: 55; Low: 35
Sunday: Partly Cloudy; High: 58; Low: 36

My Thoughts
Looking at all the forecast, I strongly believe rain will only affect the convention on Thursday and Friday Morning. How early in the morning remains to be seen. As for Saturday and Sunday, it will all depend on how strong the sea breeze is for those days. If the sea breeze is strong, you are looking at temps in the 40s/50s. However, if there little sea breeze, you are looking at temps in the 50s/60s. No rain is expected for Saturday nor Sunday. Just keep in mind though that as some of these days are over 3 days from now, forecast is very likely to change.

All in all, I am happy with my prediction I made roughly a month before Anime Boston. Yes, it was slightly colder during the day but in reality not by much. During the night, my prediction was pretty spot on.

Anyway, Anime Boston this year was extremely lucky. First and foremost, let's talk about temperature. A week prior to Anime Boston, Boston was in a cold spell. Fast forward and this weekend, a week after, Boston is again in a cold spell.

As for precipitation, Anime Boston was also lucky with that as well. Even though the convention started with rain, it was still rain. A week prior and snow was falling (I believe Boston got somewhere along the lines of 5 inches). Just like with temperatures, Boston is again being threatened by snow a week after the convention. For some reason, Boston was protected from the cold this year.

Now, I did update my initial post with this year's weather data but compared to past Anime Boston conventions, Anime Boston 2016 is the coldest convention overall with an average high of 43F, beating out Anime Boston 2008 whose average high was 44F. Anime Boston 2016 was also the wettest March Anime Boston as it was the only one to get some sort of rain.
