Amtrak crash in Connecticut

Post by Sayoria »

I dunno what other con goers are doing, but I have a friend that was going to take Amtrak to AB this year, but Saturday, Amtrak had a crash, and I don't know if it will be up and running in time if any con-goers are planning to travel with Amtrak. She is going to come by plane now. Just putting this out there for Amtrak users.

I have been slowly freaking out about this all weekend- I'm supposed to take the Northeast Regional from Baltimore to Boston on Thursday morning. I called Amtrak on Saturday and they're still holding out it'll be all magically resolved by Thursday (Um... really?), but, color me skeptical. I managed to find a $70 one way from BWI to Logan, but I'm not holding out on that lasting long either.

So, yay for backup plans (and boo for train crashes, I'm sorry that so many people got hurt). I may get in early enough on Thursday to actually SEE something of Boston. Wooho!

The last I checked they were planning to be totally up and running by then. I guess the hold up has a lot to do with they are investigating to try and figure out *why* the crash happened.
If for some reason it still isn't running, buses aren't a bad last-minute option.

Flying was my first choice too, but the person I'm travelling with wanted to take the scenic route. Meh, that's the way things work sometimes.

Airtran is having a sale that ends today- so I grabbed tickets for the 7:30am flight out of BWI. That was right around the time I was going to catch the train anyway. So, it works.

take the flight. i took the train from Rhode Island to Baltimore for otakon. It was brutal. But I flew back. A seven hour train ride is not as enjoyable as you think. $70 isnt all that bad for a one way flight.
