Places to eat in the con area?

If you're new to the city or taking the T in from out of town, this is where you can get advice from people living in The Hub. Please keep discussion limited to things in and around Boston.

Places to eat in the con area?

Post by NekZilla »

I haven't found a thread on this in my 2 minutes of looking, so curiosity compels me. Normally i'm a fitness/health nut, but cons = go nuts and eat everything for the weekend. I'll be in the con area for about 5 days *thur-mon*, and I enjoy good sit down restaurant food as much as I do fast food, provided they're within walking distance of the hotel. It wouldn't be con without some large group meals along with catching bites to eat when I remember I haven't consumed anything non-liquid in hours *..a common problem lol*.

Sooooo, Can any local or longtime ABoston attendee give me an idea of what kind of restaurants or eateries are in the general walking distance area of the con?

There's a pretty big food court in the Prudential Center! Here's a list of the services and other restaurants inside the Pru.

Most people will go to the food court during the con - I do anyway. It's quick, and after you get your food, you can sit out in the court yard.

If you're looking to leave the con grounds for food, here's another link I found of restaurants near by. There's a MacDonald's right outside the place, I know that!

The AB web site has a page for area dining: http://www.animeboston.com/location/area_dining/

This will also be listed in the program guidebook you will receive at registration.

Overall, there's a very wide selection of places to eat: From restaurants that can accommodate large groups (PF Chang's, Cheesecake Factory); smaller, more intimate places (I recommend the Trident Bookstore Cafe); to grab-and-go types (there's a large food court in the Prudential Mall, and pretty much everywhere provides take-out).

You mentioned you are health conscious. There is a Trader Joe's right across the street from the Hynes Convention Center's Boylston St. exit. About a 10 minute walk from the convention center is a Whole Foods. There is also a 24-hour Shaw's Supermarket right next to the Prudential Center.

There are also nice and cozy sit-down restaurants on Mass Ave, on the Berklee College side of the road. I highly recommend Pho Basil.

Ahh, much appreciated all :3. The customary con steak dinner with friends tradition will continue with loads of options. Also, I love whole foods, so that'll definitely be a thursday trip for random con snacks.

I'd like to suggest Quincy Market/Faneuil Hall! http://www.faneuilhallmarketplace.com/restaurants/all

It's not far at all from the Hynes (I can't remember if it's a T Stop away or walking distance), and has a long hallway with food vendors. You can get seafood (recommended if you're in Boston), Indian, Thai, ...really anything you're in the mood for.

...plus it's a cool spot to shop and hang out :)

Our crew has a tradition of eating at Champion's Sports Bar right inside the Marriott hotel on Pre-Reg night. The food is awesome, it's like gourmet style bar food. Plus, every table has it's own LCD TV where you can request whatever sports are playing, our choice is the Bruins Playoffs!

With the NBA playoffs approaching the finals around con time...this sounds like a great idea too o.o.

There's conveyor belt sushi place called Wasabi just south of Boston at the South Shore Plaza. it's a bit of a hike but you can still get there by the MBTA. There's one in Natick too. It's very cheap and really yummy. Totally worth checking out.

There's also Chinatown for cheap food if you don't mind trekking that far.
Also opened, there's a new conveyor belt Sushi place across from Chinatown (same side as Tufts University) called Enso (Yelp | easter boston. So far, I've heard good things about their sushi.

By bit of a hike, this person means 50 minutes on the train and then a bus ride from the Braintree train station to the Plaza. So like /really a hike/. But also that sushi place, because of it's location and open roof has had problems with people throwing things and spitting from the elevators. I wouldn't recommend it at all.
Also, if you were to want to leave the city to get sushi for some reason, both Kagawa and Fuji 1546 by the Quincy Center stop on the red line (almost as far as braintree, you save about 12 minutes) are pretty awesome. But honestly, there are so many good places to eat in the city that you really not worth wasting your time to travel for food, in my opinion.

go to Google.
search for (food/restraunt type) Boston.

And look at the ones that are around the Hynes.

Oh, and since most of the chatter here has been about steak and sushi, there is a place to get both only a block away from the Hynes.

It's called Samurai.

If you're looking for a place to eat.
I highly recommend the 'Cheeseboy' in the Prudential-Center food-court.

You can choose one of their menu-sandwiches or make your own.
You can pick the bread, cheese, & toppings, you want! (http://cheeseboy.com/menu/)
