Are links to songs on Spotify allowed?

Do we have to have spotify to run the link?
Youtube is a little easier if possible.

If you have it on your phone, you can connect your phone.
If there are ADs all will hear them.

So how does the lyric situation work? Is it just that we need to link you a YouTube version with lyrics, or can the lyrics be displayed separately? I’m having trouble finding a decent YouTube video of the song I’d like to do that also has lyrics.

Thanks!
Jenna

They can be displayed separately after being sourced from an online site since it's just a big monitor.
We can also still print paper lyrics if you need them.

Oh yeah, we got this now! :D So you can now copy the Spotify link and paste it in the same place as the Youtube video.

The Spotify version will have better sound quality than the Youtube version. But the Youtube version may be better if the singer needs lyrics and they are in the video and timed well.

We had very few tech issues this year with the only instance being the TVs not working on Friday morning and resolved quickly and when a tech staff came in to assist with the reverb happening with the microphones.

We also plan on getting adapters next year for people who do not have audio jacks on their phone. Ran into that issue a few times (sorry!)

Also, sometimes the audio on the phone is really bad as well, even when turned all the way up. This happened to one contestant during the contest and we did not have time for an alternate solution. We will make sure to do sound tests for contestants who sign up at the convention to prevent this in the future.

I was wondering the same thing actually! :) My fiancee ended up not having the spoons to come on Saturday but she really wanted to hear my performance.

Sorry about the late response, one of my staffers was doing that on their free time (not official AB recording).
Unfortunately the tech demons drained their cam during the convention and those two performances
were lost. Next time we will be more diligent about that

hi! i'm interested in singing the 2nd fire force opening (coldrain - "mayday") either for open karaoke or possibly signing up for the contest. the song's an anime song, by a japanese band but the lyrics are in english. there are a couple of curse words during one part of the song (f-word), but i was wondering that since it would be a karaoke version, if i just didn't sing those 2 words it would be okay? besides that the content of the song is pg-13

Yeah that would be fine, we typically like to keep the content family friendly. Since people like recording the singers and possibility of children visiting the department.

Thank you everyone for another wonderful weekend of karaoke! This year was particularly challenging as 2 of our 6 staff members had to cancel coming on Thursday due to personal unforeseen circumstances. Thursday was quite exhausting before the convention even began as we had to completely redo our schedule which meant we had to close earlier than usual and had many gaps.

Amazingly, many of our fellow staff members stepped in to volunteer time to help out and cover the gaps in the schedule and we were even able to keep the room open later than expected! I cannot thank enough everyone who volunteered and we even had more people asking to help out too!

Anyway, here are our numbers from 2023!

Most Popular Songs:

1. Fuyu no Hanashi (7 times + 3 cancellations)
2. Kick Back (6 times + 2 cancellations) & Baka Mitai (6 times + 1 cancellation)
3. Pokemon Theme Song (5 times + 1 cancellation) & Inferno (5 times)

I know these numbers contradict the spontaneous trivia game we had on Saturday night plus the list on the dry erase board on Sunday since I was including cancellations at that time and I think I missed some of the Fuyu no Hanashi cancellations.

548 sign ups and 114 cancellations.

Contest winners:

First Place: Madama Madisong (Lilium by Konishi Kayo from Elfen Leid)
Second Place: Mao (Mayday by Coldrain from Fire Force)
Third Place: Alyssa (Chase by Setsuna Yuki from Love Live)

Staff's Pick: Fenris (Honorbound by Frank Wildhorn from Death Note: the Musical)

Another year of karaoke has gone by! This year we had 3 new staff members who all did an AMAZING job! However, the wired internet this year decided it wanted to be moody and randomly go down. It went back up fairly quickly except for one time it seems.

The mics were also randomly dropping for a split second sometimes several times during one song. We'll look into this for next year. The mics were definitely different ones than what we normally have.

Here are the numbers from 2024!

Most Requested Songs:

1. Baka Mitai - 9 (8 played + 1 cancellation)
2. Unravel - 7 (0 cancellations)
3. Colors - 6 (4 played + 2 cancellations) and Idol - 6 (4 played + 2 cancellations)

Baka Mita has reclaimed the number 1 spot! Unravel made a comeback! Both a classic and a new hit tied for third!

538 sign ups and 63 cancellations.

Much less cancellations this year. I think because we were very on top of the queue and were able to get through ALL sign ups before closing.

Contest winners:

First Place: Miko (Stay With Me by Miki Matsubara)
Second Place: Owl (Princess by TOPHAMHAT-KYO)
Third Place: Delaney (Mononoke Hime from Princess Mononoke)

Staff's Choice: Shio.kou (At God's Mercy by Dancing Dolls)
