Iron Cosplay Secret Ingredient Suggestions

Post by Eilonnwy »

Every year I run the Game Show "Iron Cosplay" which is based on the TV show "Iron Chef".

Basically instead of cooking, you must create a cosplay in 15 minutes with materials provided including the Secret Ingredient

This year I'm taking suggestions for possible items to be used as the secret ingredient.

The items we have already used are as follows:
2005: Boomerang, Mardi Gras Polker Beads
2006: Party Blower, Toilet Brush

I think those party streamers would be something cool to work with. They'd be cool, but somewhat difficult since they rip easy. Or maybe some fake flowers?

Cold Wet Spaghetti??!!!

Man, I'd pay to see someone make a cosplay out of THAT!

But nevertheless, I want to avoid items that will make a slimy mess.

How about you just go to the recycle store in the Kids museum, and see what kind of bizzare things you can find? They always have all sorts of cool crap :)

Possibility, but I don't have a car so I'd rather limit my shopping to the nearby National Liquidator store.

*loves iron-cosplay type stuff, and always makes some creative use of a household good with most of her costumes*

Love some of the ideas in this thread all ready.

-washcloths(along the same line quilt squares or patches)
-twist ties(like the ones you get with bread or in toy boxes or even old trash bags)

And because one of my costumes is simply the definition of iron cosplay and I'd love to see someone come up with something else with the main materials(unless they're already in the drawing box)

-trashbags
-duct tape/electrical tape/hockey tape(basically any kind of colored tape)

well duct tape is actually provided as a general item for the people to use, it doesn't work as a secret ingredient because it's a necessity.

That is true. One of my friends helps collect the stuff for the Recycle Shop.

However, the BCM is closed for renovations right now. Scheduled to reopen in April, but not sure exactly when.

No need to use car to get to it. From South Station, walk to the water and go over the bridge. It's the place with the giant milk bottle in front.

Seriously? Bah! I went there just a few months ago and they were still semi-open. The recycle store had closed for lunch though, so I couldn't get in.

Edit - Looks like I went there on the 9th of december, so yeah, pretty much right before they closed.

Cheap Colored T-shirts. The four pack of shirts from $10 each or less at the Dollar Store. Those would make great basics for a costume.

Can non-cosplayers volunteer to be the models for this event?

You'd have to talk to the Iron Cosplayer and the challenger. In most Iron Cosplay competitions (at least the ones I've seen) the model is usually a cosplayer and can therefore aid the master cosplayer and their su-cosplayer. There are only so many spots on a given team and they only have an hour. If they give the spot to someone who can't help they are wasting a spot.

The way I run this event, teams of 3 are picked and they have 15 minutes to make a cosplay, and they must use one member of their team to wear it.
