Ballroom Dancers

Post by ChibiKoun »

To everyone planning to attend the formal dance:

Has anyone taken ballroom dance classes? If so, would you be interested in meeting before the dance to meet dance partners who have also taken classes? While I have enjoyed every formal dance at AB that I've attended, it can be difficult to find dance partners who know at least the basic steps. A gathering of dancers beforehand would be a good way to meet others, especially if you're not attending the dance with someone.

If you're interested, please leave a reply.

There is usually a dance class in the afternoon before the formal. It's a great way for beginners to learn, and the more experienced to brush up on their steps. It's a great way to meet partners beforehand too, since most people attending the lesson will be at the Ball later.
I dont know when exactly the lesson will be this year, but look out for it when the schedule goes up closer to the con.
There is also a dance staff at the ball itself, so if you cant find a partner of your own, then you can always dance with someone else trained.

Yes, I've attended the dance classes before. They get crowded quickly, though, and some people have schedule conflicts. I thought a brief gathering just before the ball itself would be a good way at least to meet and say hello before going in.

Haha, these balls need dance cards. That would make everything easier.

This. If you're looking for partners, by all means you should ask one of the hosts! We love getting asked to dance, and it's always easy to identify us by our boutonnieres/corsages. That being said, if you have any questions or suggestions feel free to email Formal Staff using the form at: http://animeboston.com/about/contact/55

Or hey, consider joining the dance host program at the Ball! It's a great way to meet partners and pass on your dance knowledge :D

That being said, I think a gathering of experienced dancers at AB would be pretty cool...can the teacher be invited or is that too uncool? ;)

I think it would be super cool for the teacher to come! 8-)

I'm always happy to ask the hosts for a dance, but I always enjoy meeting people too.

There is no real info yet; I wanted to see if there would be anyone interested first.

Well, everyone? When and where do you think would be a good time to meet? I was thinking of a brief gathering very soon before the dance, but that might not be convenient for everyone's schedules.

Many of us have been worrying about getting tickets online. I've tried asking a lot of people, but no one really seems to be sure whether the tickets have already been sold out online or if they haven't even gone on sale yet.

Do any of you guys know anything?

I'm pretty sure they haven't been sold out yet, it probably would've said so. According to a post I saw in a different thread, they had trouble with the ticket system for a second time. I wish I knew when it's going to be up again, but until then we should just be a little more patient. They won't leave us hanging.

Update 3/14/12:

Unfortunately we have had some issues with the online system used to purchase tickets for the Pheonix Ball. While we hope the issue is resolved, we are aware that some bugs may still exist.

Rather than continuing to wait for all the bugs to be worked out, we are proceeding with the current system. However, please read the instructions on our Phoenix Ball page for instructions when purchasing tickets. They should help to avoid the issue that was occurring previously.

Well, there are still some issues with the ticketing system, as I was charged $45 instead of $4 (yes, the page was correct according to the instructions). I also posted here about the issue: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=14344&p=223457#p223457

Edited to say that my issue has been resolved. :)

Yes, please! I've only started learning this (school) year, so I can only dance a very limited number of styles, but I'd love to find people to practice dancing what I do know. (As of right now I have no idea what my schedule will look like, but I think right before the ball will probably work best for most people anyway.)

In previous years we've asked people who have ballroom experience to arrive 30 mins before the ball and to serve as dance hosts but we haven't gotten much response. If people are interested I will whip up some extra corsages. Being a dance host means you have to know the basic steps and you won't turn people down on their first request. It's actually alot of fun. If you or anyone else is interested *please* let me know so I know how many corsages/boutineires to make.

Also for the ticket question, bring your receipt with with you to pick up you're ticket.

Thanks!

I had no idea, but it does sound like fun. I'd be interested!

Thanks to everyone who came to this event. I really enjoyed being one of the hosts and getting a chance to mingle a little (I spend most of the convention copped up in the operations office or running around). I hope my dance skills weren't too rusty for those of you who were brave enough to ask for/accept a dance. ;-)

Hope to see you all there next year!
