Hello there, just had a question about who can do a burlesque/ what is the registration process? My friend and I were thinking about getting involved next year. :P

This year, the burlesque performers were a professional burlesque troop. There is no sign-up/registration process.

Oh, cool! Do you think this will ever become an event like the Masquerade that you can sign up for?

That seems highly unlikely. As Samantha said, this was a professional troupe.

:content: It would be really cool if eventually you could have an 'Amateur Cosplay Burlesque' or something (as well as the regular one?). You could hold auditions before to make sure that the people were good enough. Just an idea :)

AFAIK it wasn't an "event" it was a "panel" so it works the same way any other panel works. You apply to do it.

Actually, it was a proper "event" and not a "panel."

In addition, we will not allow any amateur burlesque panels next year if only because of the legal issues that arise with organizing this sort of thing. It was difficult enough navigating the legal waters with a professional organization that already had a good idea what the issues were -- we do not want to have to deal with the legal minefield of allowing amateurs to do a burlesque event.

No worries... With all the stuff going on at a con, it's easy to get confused as to what's what. :)

I've been meaning to ask. . . are the local laws concerning nudity very strict here or something? I saw Cosplay Burlesque at Otakon last year, and that was a VERY different show from what we saw at Anime Boston.

Yes. The show had to be toned down from what was performed at Otakon. We went through three rounds of discussion with the MCCA lawyers before the show was permitted to go forward.

I'm really glad to hear that people enjoyed Cosplay Burlesque. I heard of them from Otakon and saw them at AUSA. I really wanted to see them perform in a large venue like Anime Boston (we are their largest venue yet at 2200 audience members, 500 above the 1700 person audience at Otakon). It was a battle as Mary said, but finally the MCCA was on my side with a few alterations. It makes me really happy to see that it was worth it!

I loved it! The performance was great, I hope they come back next year.
The funny thing is the day before I was watching a documentary on
burlesque. It was done by the wife of Robert Zemekis. Really interesting,
they mentioned the city of Boston in it too. I better stop myself before I
talk about movie palaces.

Hey y'all! Fonda Feeling here, the Faye Valentine and Poison Ivy from the event!

First of all, thank you everyone for being such an AMAZING audience and for being so supportive and awesome. You're all amazing and I hope to see you at more events!

I'm a Boston-based Burlesque dancer who became involved with Cosplay Burlesque through a fantastic friend. I've been doing this professionally in the area for a while now, and working with the CPB crew was great, they were professional, fun to work with, and they put on a great show.

I'll be joining them again for Anime Next and Otakon, so come check those out. I'm SO glad it went as well as it did!

Really? No burlesque this year? :( I think that was probably one of the best parts of last year's con.
